Default Bosch Solution Back up Battery

G'day all I am new to this forum and found it while searching for infomation.

I think I need to replace the backup battery in our Bosch solution 880 alarm system.
I suspect that there may be more involved than just opening the case and replacing the battery.

How do I stop it sounding when opening the case ?

Leave the 240 volt supply connected or unplug it ?

Will it need reprogramming after ?

Are there any other traps for the uninformed ?

    Thanks
    Garry

Step One: Let the monitoring centre know what you're about to do, as they may receive a tamper signal when you open the box. If they don't, the guy that installed it didn't do a proper job.

Step Two: Open box. When the sirens sound, enter the PIN to silence it as normal (quicker if a second person does this to be nice to your neighbours).

Step three: Change battery. If you turn off the power, you'll lose the date/time when you unplug the battery. If you leave it on, some will say you might blow up the panel but I've never seen it happen. Anyone?

You should also write on the battery "Date installed: XXXX". Depending who you ask, you can use black texta on some white electrical tape or a silver marker pen directly on the battery (which approach is a source of ongoing holy war at this site).

Dispose of the old battery in an environmentally friendly and/or entertaining manner.

    Default Bosch solution 880 battery

    Thanks for that Downunderdan

Would you happen to have the model or part number or failing that the size of the battery , that way I will only have to open the box once , rather than twice
1 the get the battery ID
    2 to replace it

it is 4 years old , is that about average life ?

Try Dick Smith for battery: Cat. No. s3321. The alarm might also have a time/date fault. Refer to the User Manual for your alarm on how to check if it has, and how to reset it.

Won't happen - you can even replace the battery reverse polarity & it won't hurt the panel ( the battery could suffer though)

Black texta is the way to go ( the MAN way ) That silver writing just looks a bit girly to me

Couldn't we just put the panel into "Service Mode" or doesn't the 880 have this? Because, for what it's worth it will stop the siren from sounding from an a tamper alarm on the control panel

    Default Bosch solution 880 battery

    Thanks for the info
I used the handbook to read fault codes and that is indicating back up battery problem.

What is average life for these ?

and yes I am a believer in putting a install date on things like this.

The 880 doesn't have a service mode as such but putting it in programming mode has the same effect
3-4 yrs is the average battery life.

One more thing. After you install the new battery, it may need to charge, so allow a day or so for the low battery fault to clear itself.

After changing the Battery, Arming then Disarming normally forces a battery test and battery fault will disappear within a few seconds.

...Unless the newly installed battery isn't fully charged. See my earlier comment.

Hi, I've got the same problem as Garry, with a fault code and warning sound emitting from the panel letting me know the back up battery is low.

My system is a Bosch Solution 16 (originally installed in 2004 so I've had a pretty good run from the battery).

    Just wondering if:

    a) the steps to replace the back up battery in the Solution 16 system are the same as those posted by downunderdan re Garry's Solution 880 system; and

    b) if the replacement battery I would need for the Solution 16 would also be the same 12v / 7ah one mentioned by alarmman (eg dick smith cat no s3321)

Thanks to anyone who can help

    Cheers, Lee

Default Changing battery and cancelling tamper siren

    Hey all

I have a signature 880 and no codes/info since I moved in - but 2 remote controls - as above, if I change battery can I cancel tamper siren when I open the box without the pin code?

    thanks in advance

If the remotes work then yes. Just press off with the remote if the alarm sounds.
Best to get an alarm tech to reset codes.
