    Default Good System For DIY

    G'day guys,

I'm interested in getting a system put into my house, I'm a service tech and qualified sparky but haven't had anything to do with alarms as such. I'm proficient with electronic/electrical systems. Can anyone give me an idea of why wireless stuff is inferior to the wired? Do I have to pay a high price to get a decent system? Anyone have system recommendations for a simple 3 bedroom house? This looked interesting to me but as I said I don't know much.

    Love to hear anyone's thoughts.

Anything bosch or Hills will be the best option for you. They are simple and really how technical do you want to go?
They can both have expanded outputs and things for your dog watering system or automatic locking of the kids windows at 930pm.
Wired means no batterys. RF means batterys and can be a tad clumsy alarm trigger wise as they try to preserve battery whilst doing their job. I am into the physical connection. Much like Porn vs a girlfriend.
I like it when people have a dabble so go get a system and feel free to PM me if you need a hand.
    $45 per Pm tho!! jk

With present technology, wireless is inferior and should only be run where wiring is prohibitive due to construction or aesthetics, or a device needs to be portable.

My view may change in the next few years, but for the time being the hardwired (decent) detectors have much better detection, false alarm rejection and signal processing, all of which are quite power intensive and at odds with battery conservation.

Also, if you're a sparky, read this bit carefully: For most of the brands you're likely to buy, alarm devices are all wired back to the panel. They aren't wired up in series like electrical points.

You forgot the most important bit, Dan. The devices use 4 wires.

OK I take your point about the wireless. Obviously for security reliability is the key factor. I'll go for wired. Looks like I'm in for some more reading. lol

I have seen a Tecom DGP wired with 2.5mm T&E. It was 3-wired and under a stage where you had to crawl through a maze to locate it.
