If you've plugged in a standard phone to the socket and can't call out, then no, it's not the challenger
Hi buddies
I came across a tecom system which has stopped reporting to monitoring
Company using the onboard dialer. I have dial tone on the line. But Titan event reports of some communication issues.
However when I hooked up a phone to the line and tried to dial monitoring company number and many others telstra reports I cannot dial that number as per my service or sth similar.
Is it possible for me to check the pstn line this way? I have my doubts if the challenger adds some extra digits to the number shown under communications settings.
Any info in this regard is appreciated, before I can conclude whether the issue is with challenger or telstra. Even a challenger restart did not fix.
Thanks

I actually have dial tone on the line. Thought I could not tap the line to test it's functionality unlike a standard home phone.
Anyway if challenger does not add any prefixes or sth to the dial string, this must be sth to do with telco.
Line can still have dialtone when barred/disconnected. As soon as Telstra responds with "service unavailable" then that's where I'd be looking.
Simplest method to test the line is;
Ulplug the panel
plug normal phone into socket
Dial a normal local landline IE not STD and not mobile, suggest fax number of the business where you are.
If the call goes out OK, then dial your monitoring 1345 number
If that number goes out OK, looks like the panel is at fault.
If that don't go out, perhaps there is some barring on the line somewhere.
If nothing goes out, looks like a line fault
i think Intelligeorge summed it up. Some accountant trying to save a buck!?

A number of cheaper phone providers do block 1345 numbers. If it was working one day and stopped all of a sudden, it's possible that one reseller was acquired by another.
Personally, I cringe at the idea of a Challenger panel even being connected to a phone line. It's a bit like driving a Ferrari up a muddy track*.
Why the *hell* isn't there a decent monitoring platform in place instead? Serial output is hella-fast as well. Nice to know when you're being held-up.
(* yes, I know some will now argue whether Challenger is a Ferrari or a Daewoo but you get my point)
