just disable sleep mode .. turn monitor off by switch when ya know there going to long time not used for !
ive got a crt that won't come out of sleep mode.
it works perfectly fine when in use, but as soon as i leave the pc for 10 mins. it goes to sleep never to be woken again (without pulling it from the power plug for 5 mins)
its not the computer as ive got 4 more monitors all plugged in that work perfectly and wake up on command.
i tried googling, but most answers point to windows power management (which is not the issue here)
has anyone else had this problem? or heard of it?

Dry joints on the main PCB.
Set warms up, metal expands, contact is broken, monitor shuts down untill it cools off enough for the component leg to shrick back & remake contact.
I would suspect the fault to be in the B+ feed from the power supply secondry supplying the flyback primary, or in the line drive/line output stage
It could also be a B+ cap that starts shorting when she gets warm, causing the power slupply to shut down into standby. If thats the case it will probably be sticking it's head up saying 'It's me!, It's me!'
Reality is an invention of my imagination.

I assume your monitor is VESA complient, then the monitor uses vertical and horizontal sync signals to determine which mode it should operate in.
What is your monitor model number? It sounds like a dry joint preventing the monito circuit to detect that sync is back.
Pulling the cable off the card will cool the joint down so it is operational again.
Depending what monitor do you have it might be a good idea to replace it instead of repairing.
I Have seen in a computers power management settings in the bios, 2 different ways for turning off the monitor. Maybe you could check if your computer bios has these settings, change it and try it
thanks for the replies guys.
something is definatly faulty in the monitor (haven't pulled it apart yet to check)
for the short time ive had it. 3 days. the % of times it will turn on from either sleep mode or being powered off is getting close to 10%. which is frustrating.
to begin with if i pulled the vga lead out from the back of the pc gave it a few mins then plugged it back in. it would fire up straight away. now thats not even seeming to get it to work.
when i can get it to fire, with no cable plugged in it shows 'monitor is working fine' im not sure what this is checking?
it now seems to be 'on' as the light is not flashing nor orange (sleep mode)
but i have no picture?
the monitor is a dell m993c which is a sony trinitron tube.
i was thinking of carefully unsoldering the vga lead from the board, and resoldering another one onto it.
is that worth trying?
is it worth fixing?
thanks for the help so far.
For explanation what is happening check link.
It might be the cable problem.
I could be wrong but the cable is most likely plugged in to the monitor board. You might want to open and check the connection is tight.
I wouldn't really bother to fix it if the problem is not visible (like cable is not connected).
You can pick up nice 19" CRT monitor somewhere between $20 and $50. See the options
well i took a punt and opened it up.
everything looked in great condition inside.
no leaking caps, and the vga lead seemed to be plugged tight.
so i checked as many connections as i could they all seemed fine.
i wiggled the plug and pressed it down firm (it didn't feel loose though)
its been 4 days straight now seems to be working fine fingers crossed.
thanks again for all the help
PS. these sony tubes are great. im considering buying another one to match this one.
