Default Gps Suitable For Travelling Overseas

    Hi all
I have a Hitachi GPS and acording to Hitachi Support can only support a map of Australia(though there is a Countries button). So Id like some feedback/information regarding GPS's that can upload maps from other countries, how easy it is to do,where you get maps from and what cost is involved. Any comments from members that have gone through the same process is greatly appreciated.
    p.s. prefer in car unit

Can't find any info on this all I can say it has the latest sensis map loaded.
I'm not going to bother trying to update the Hitachi I just want to know what the model is I should get to do what I want. I'm actually travelling to Hawaii and I've had a look at the Magellan 4250.
    Thanks

if your going to Hawaii buy one there, cheaper by a long shot, Buy a tom tom and change to the Aus maps when you get home, I bought mine in compusa in honolulu, but I think theyve closed, you could try the shopping center at pearl

If you have a browse through previous posts you will see tomtom maps can be had at zero cost. Personally I bought a one V3 with 1g internal and no external sd, not the best available option but US$120 and 1g will run aus and NZ at the same time and if you back up before you change the maps you can revert to US maps whenever you like. If you buy a model thaat takes sd its even simpler, just copy all the files including hidden ones and start from there but on the new sd and keep the US one in the desk.

If you intend to rent a car there, just rent it with an optional GPS unit - around $8/day.

Thats a personal choice based on what functionality you want over a basic GPS
