Default Brisbane PS3 Repair Service - YLOD, Laser & More!

    Information

I am a north side based professional PS3 repairer. I have been repairing PS3’s for years and I am more than accommodating for any problem you may be having, big or small.

The repairs I offer are done with professional machinery and I only use high quality parts and materials, so don't be fooled by some people claiming they can do what I do.

I am happy to prove that I am actually reballing your machine

Repairs can be done on the spot within 2 hours depending on the repair. Replacement parts can be ordered in for your specific problem and this generally can take 5-7 working days.

If I cannot fix your PS3 nobody but Sony can and in that situation they will simply replace your console for a flat fee of $250.

Repairs start at $20 minimum, so if there is something simple that’s all I will charge (This includes inspection for bigger repairs).
YLOD repairs require an initial $40 fee for parts and time and when the repair is complete you simply pay the rest.
For part ordering a 50% deposit is required.

Xbox 360 Reball & Reflow repair also available for the same prices.

    What is the YLOD?!

The YLOD refers to the yellow light that flashes when your PS3 fails to boot up. Instead of going green, it flashes yellow then blinks red. The PS3 will not start and no matter how much you try because there is no connection to the processor anymore. This is only caused by one problem which is illustrated below.

    What causes the YLOD?

The solder joints on the PS3 are lead free. This makes it extremely brittle when it comes to the intense heat that the PS3 creates. The motherboard on the older PS3s also tends to warp causing the already brittle solder joints to break causing a loss of connection to the processor which makes the PS3 not start up.

Boards CECHA to CECHE have a higher risk of the YLOD due to added processors, wattage, board, processor speed and fan size. These consoles generally have a lower chance of repair due to their age and additional ware. When repaired the retention rate is lower than others unless reballed.

It is EXTREMELY rare for a slim to have a YLOD, generally people mistake the problem with a different one. I personally have never seen one.

The best way to completely fix the YLOD for longer than a few months is to reball it with a professional rework setup. This process involves desoldering the RSX chip on the PS3 and replacing the very brittle lead free solder with leaded solder. This is a lengthy process but the return on investment is well worth it. The PS3 is literally guaranteed never to fail again, which is why I can offer warranties of 12 months or over.

Reflowing (the cheaper option) is simply reheating and subsequently melting the solder joints without removing the chip. This method is essentially a blind repair and therefore there is no warranty for the hot air repair. I can offer a warranty for the IR reflow as the machine is programmed specifically for a professional grade reflow and the temperatures are adjusted to make the repair process as perfect as possible. This is still not as good as reballing.

Does preventing the YLOD with a fan mod help? NO!
What a joke. All this will do is make your PS3 extremely loud.

Air cooling is simply not enough to prevent the YLOD as the heatsync and and fan are just not good enough to keep it cool to the point where it will never die. Liquid cooling maybe.

    Notes

Be sure to let me know if the PS3 you want repaired has already been repaired/opened beforehand as I'm not responsible for any other issues that may occur.

Don't bring any cables with you please!

Your PS3's motherboard ID and the serial on your case will be archived to prevent fraudulent repairs.

When calling/texting me about organising a date of repair etc please remember! And don't forget to text and confirm on the day with me.

All information here was written and gathered by Betterway Electronics.

I've done guest lecture work on PS3 hardware at QUT (How cool is that? Haha).
