    Default VGA vs Component

My mate has a Panasonic 42" Viera Plasma and has just purchased a PS3...

I was wondering what provides better output?

Does VGA have any advantages over using component cables on the ps3?

VGA does not offer any advantage over component, in fact VGA may have some compatibility limitations with some panels

    Urban is right

    in order

    1. Use HDMI
    2. Use Component (same as RGB in quality)
    3. Use RGB
    4. Use VGA
    5. Use S-video
    6. very last resort use composite video...

But I would not rush out to buy a HDMI because it is the best, the difference is pretty subtle between component and HDMI. Large jumps down to S-video and then to composite of course.

ive had hdmi, then bought a hdmi cable when i got my new lcd, quite a difference in between those two.

doing a bit more research, vga doesnt seem to work that wellat all on the ps3... its not"meant to be" people have just hackd/modded cables to get it to work.

id stick with either hdmi or component.

hdmi's pretty cheap these days as well.

Another advantage of HDMI over component and VGA is that the single cable does both Video and Audio.

If your TV is HDMI 1.3 compliant you can even use your TV remote to control the player.

Good points, and the TV remote is very neat.

Got to admit I saw a difference in VGA to HDMI just on my puter monitor, but I maintain with a decent Plasma or LCD "panel" for movies, subjectively little difference between component and HDMI.....so much depends on the individual panel though

As U say its all the same price now so why cut corners...all I am saying is I would not go selling my stuff to have HDMI
