I have a 7" portable dvd player that i used with the receiver out on the roof. Used it to find optus c1 and then used your tip to find optus d2. Tree was not an issue. Now im averaging 97% signal strength and 80-85% signal quality. very happy with the result.

Now for the channels, how many should i find on optus d2?

Nice work and welcome to the hobby!

    Thanks Leroy.

Now I can just learn more stuff and play around. Not an expensive hobby. What other satellites are good for FTA?

Check out lyngsat.com.au/asia.html and there you will find the Optus sats, Intelsat 8 and Asiasat 4. You need a universal to get all the channels on i701 but you get some with your 10700 and current dish depending on size and your location.
There are also feeds that come up so you just have to scan and see if they are there.

You can get some cards in Oz for some services but they are mainly ethnic channels.
The only ridiculous questions are the ones you don't ask!

On D2 there is TRT Turk which is FTA and also Russia Today with the latter being in english. V8 Supercar feeds come in on this sat as well when the races are on.

Add too NHK World Japan in English, PRESS TV of Iran in English, RT (Russia Today) in English and you have three news channels. Each great for coverage of events in their area.

Eg; NHK had thorough tsunami footage. RT had hardcore coverage of the Georgian conflict.

I usually add a second LNB for reception of C1,s AlJazeera International; not a bad outfit. All in - all a balance to the dumbed-down, soft news you always get on AUS FTA TV news.
