Question Using generic USB cable to charge Garmin Nuvi

I have a Garmin Nuvi 265WT (or something along those lines...). The other day I purchased one of the Belkin micro cigarete lighter plug in adapters that has two USB ports on it. I plugged in an Apple iPhone/iPhone/iPad cable into one port and a generic USB cable into the other - connected the other end to the Garmin (the cable had the appropriate small mini USB plug). However, then the screen of the Garmin indicates that it thinks that it is connected to a PC. Is there a way around this? I would really like to avoid using the much larger bulkier genuine Garmin charger.

A common problem. Not simply overcome unless you are handy with a soldering iron.
    Code:

    etc.

Cool, thanks for that link. Is there anywhere to buy a cable at that already has the correct resistor for grounding pin X?
