Default DIY Solar Panals and DIY Wind Generators

There is a lot of stuff to read and videos to watch on making your own solar panals and wind generators but everything I see is in the US or elsewhere.

Is there anything within Australia like web links or places to contact or even clubs where DIYers get together about making these things.

I tried for a little while to find places in AUS to get the parts to make my own solar panals and even called BP and asked to buy parts from them. But no luck, They said they don't and wont sell to the public.

Is it even worth the effort to DIY a solar panel now with the lower priced panels comming out of asia.?

And for wind generators, I wouldn't mind using up some free time to make one, but havn't found any clear info on how to wind coils and were to get some decent magnets.

Been a while since I looked into this stuff and since lost all the 'net bookmarks I had, but if you google: there'll be enough info to keep you off the streets for a few weeks I'd reckon.

Silicon Chip Magazine published an article on wind generator construction a few years ago and there have been contributions from readers also.

Go to the Silicon Chip website and search.

    This should get you started.

Oatley Electronics in N.S.W. supply parts - go to and use their SEARCH button to locate relevant components.

1 thing i will say is the more blades the less wind needed to turn but less blades will spin faster, the longer the better and for some reason an uneven amount of blade's is also better. I am about to post a new thread of my own hybrid system.
