    Default deal on at Harvey Norman this weekend

    Anyone seen or heard this?
    Awesome deal on at Harvey Norman this weekend 2 for the price of one AMD laptops

    That is not a bad deal at all

    I just heard the ad on the radio - limit one per customer (and no I don't work there)

    according to lifehacker.com.au - The conditions state that the second laptop needs to be of equal or lesser value, so you don’t have to buy two of the same model (though that might be what you’re after). There’s a lot of ASUS models on offer, plus Acer, HP, Sony and Toshiba. Stocks are likely to vary a lot between stores, so you might have to do some schlepping around to get the exact models you want.

    I checked out the ASUS quad core and the part number is difficult to find on google to see what the price is elsewhere, appears that this model is for sale in Syria and some European countries.

    I used to work for HN, they will run this deal to get people in the door. They will have limited stock on low GP models. None of the models will have any price reductions on them and they will aim to try and cover the loss with the GP of the more expensive laptop.

    This could be a genuine deal but there will be something behind it. Just had a look on their website and a couple of the advertised laptops are sold out!

    Fixed up the link posted above.

    If you can try and haggle a bit you will get yourself a bargain!

    I compared one of the laptops for sale to Office works, Office works had similar Specs but Intel based.. Found Officeworks $600 cheaper than Harvey Norman.. I suspect the price is a little inflated on those listed laptops to make up for any perceived loss.

    I dont really understand why ppl buy stuff from Harvey Norman.. I look at the ticket price and just walk away... I know the key with them is to neg a deal but I dont really want to waste my time and energy on haggling with them. Prefer JB or Good Guys.

    Most of the times their sales tactics are to just, yeah get ppl in the front door as stated before.. Just like those EOFY one night only sales. Pathetic..

    It's all about creating a friendly and comfortable atmosphere that customers like coming into.

    When I worked for them we left our ticketed prices on items/display even after there had been a price drop by the supplier and we had been credited the difference. Then when the customer asks for the best price the salesman would quote the reduced price and the customer thinks they are getting a good deal. They only stock products they can make allot of money, wont stock products that everyone stocks as they have to price match, hence why they are advertising laptop models not many in Australia will stock.

    Do you think they would just give away a laptop just like that?

    Wonder why I'm a tad bitter, they treated me like crap and paid very very poorly.

    Picked up 2x ASUS A53T A6 AMD laptops, worked out $549 each :
    * A6 Quad core - outperforms Gen 1 i7 according to benchmarks
    * Radeon 1GB HD6720g2 Graphics
    * 4GB DDR 3
    * 750GB WD HDD
    * 15.6 LED HD Screen
    * GBit Lan, Wireless N
    * USB 3.0
    * DVD-RW
    * Win 7 Home Premium

    Go halves with a mate, for the price can't really go wrong.

    Can get A8 Acers 8GB , 750GB , Blueray Drive for $749 each at Joyce Mayne ( for the extra $200 would have grabbed these but already purchased the ASUS's)

    That looks a pretty decent laptop for the price you paid. Shame I bought a laptop about 6 months ago for around the same price.

    Did they discount it at all? Try and add onto the sale?

    Yep, tried to upsell with AntiVirus, case, warranty etc, Sales guy thought he was doing a deal and a sure thing - in the words of Little Britian - "Computer Says No!", as they are is fine. 6 months ago I paid $899 for a Toshiba A660 i5, 640GB HDD, 4GB Ram - has a better screen, backlit keyboard, BluRay, and Digital TV Tuner, but no Gbit LAN or USB3.0. Still love the Toshiba but for a 2nd laptop ASUS great value.
