I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
There was a notice posted on the website saying some people had not provided any feedback at all during the trial period and to please contribute, otherwise they would be asking those non-contributors to return the equipment.
Were you an active participant by providing feedback to the project?
yeah I spent hours trying to replicate problems that others had reported and also reported problems I found and ideas I had, I was also critical of trying to make a cheap piece of crap do what it was not designed to do, may be the truth hurts.
Did UEC give any reason they wanted the boxes returned? Maybe they need a few back to check something, after several months of use?
Pretty certain if they get too much hassle from all this (like getting flamed for no reason), they will simply pull the plug on the trial program for any new products. Nice going...
Im not flaming anyone I have tested the box and would not recommend it to any of my friends I would wait for something better. I have tested equipment for other companies over the past 10 year mostly in the computer industery and I tell it like it is.
After all the initial excitement a year ago, my VAST box has been relegated to the spare room - it doesn't go HDMI through my AV receiver and has a host of other glitches, all of which have been identified in this post.
Just hope and pray that over time somebody will be able to get the card working in a third party receiver.
Yeah I hope so I just dont understand why uec persist trying to make a pvr out of this box unless they are stuck with thousands of them in stock, they have other pvr sat boxes allready developed surely it would be easier to set them up to run the vast card ?

The way VAST has been established I think that there will NEVER be the option to use a 3rd party STB without changing current legislation and as for competition, with what has been said before regarding the criterea and licencing fees that wont happen either.
I also doubt that untill the Digital changeover is completed in 2013, they wont be interested in doing anymore that neccesary with the STB simply because this is all still in the Trial and Evaluation stage, they say.
Maybe once the Metro areas have changed over and Terrestial coverage is finalised, those who are left out along with the Regional/Rural areas may then be able to get some changes made to the whole operation of VAST.

I think we should be thankful that although UEC put out an under achieving box, at least they have conducted field trials on new software to make it into something better.
While it may not be what we all would like, at least it should be better thanks to the Austech forum members being invited to participate in the trial.
That's providing of course that their input was accepted at whatever level.
Cheers, Tiny

I can confirm that suggestions and any bugs found were not only taken on board by UEC, but many changes implemented were as a direct result of the input of the trial participants.
As a result, the product has/will evolve into something that is a significant improvement from it's initial release.

I found the box passed the 'as described' test.
As such did not lodge any grumble bug reports about things that won't be changed

I participated quite a bit, about the smallest of things,
& some enhancements I would like to see, (not all have been done),
but since the latest Firmware trial, I have not had much to report about,
I guess, as it should be.......
There has been a lot of improvement since the start I think,
Having said that, I don't think any STB on the market is perfect either.
depending on the People, some say Austar boxes are crap,
& some say the Foxtel STB's are crap,
& others find no problem,
& the Manufactures only want to spend enough money for a good product, (or the cost blows out)

I agree that the box is much better than it started out, I have one and any improvement to it not only benefits myself but all those out there that have one and as osirus has said after the last update there has not been much to report, I have been doing this type of stuff for awhile and usually the companies appreciate your time and effort and unlike UEC often let you keep the hardware etc after the trial. Dont get me wrong I never expected to keep the sat box but they could have let us keep the External HDD or something. It will be interesting to see how much the upgrade will cost.
Oh and sorry they did say "THANKS"

fancy that I wonder which member on here works for UEC
Good luck everyone with the pvr update I am sure if you have any problems your posts will not be falling on deaf ears
cheers thomo
