    Default Acer Travelmate Smartcard readers/programmers

    Hello all..

Tried google for hours just though id ask someone that may already know.

I have a bunch of ex-gov acer travelmate (edit)630, 650 and 660's laptops been sitting around and ill probably be flogging off on ebay soon but noticed they all have a smartcard programmer inbuilt, pretty sure originally it was used to program a "warranty smartcard" you would send back to acer with your personal details programmed onto it..

Anyways I havent really found much useful information on it but Im fairly sure its a "O2Micro CardBus Controller OZ6912" If anyone knows if it can be used to program anything useful id appreciate it (might also put some for sale on the forums if they are indeed usefull to anyone))

    Please let me know.
    Cheers
    jas

I think the laptops came with a smartcard and it could be used for access control to the laptop
Don't worry, it only seems kinky the first time.

looks like your right i just found this " Smart Card interface with pre-boot authentication system for added security" in the user manual for the 650 and 660.. (I obviously didnt look hard enough the first time)

Really dont know why i thought it was a warranty card..hehe, thanks for the reply Rocket..
