Wireless modem router?
Hi all,
Need some adivce here. What would be the most reliable wireless modem router? and prices ofcourse.
I will be running just a laptop (no Desktop) so i guess i would need something reliable with wireless thats a solid wireless connection I currently have adsl 1500kbps speed.
Any ideas?

I would recommend Linksys. I've got a WRV200 but there are later version now. It has a good interface to setup the thing unlike others I've seen and used which try to make it "simple" with less options thats a big problem if you need to setup some more advanced settings.
Some routers don't handle IPSEC traffic too which is a major problem if you need to run a VPN client to connect to work etc.
Yeah ive heard about the linksys just didnt know to much about them, thanks for some reviews on that Rat. looks like i got some homework to do lol

Re other routers I really don’t know. One thing I like about Linksys is there are owned by Cisco. For a normal home user perhaps most brand name routers would be 100% ok. I am not a normal home user (some would say not normal period.) as I need to connect to a number of places over secure links so things like supports VPN clients outbound and having a decent firewall interface is important to me.
Stay away from dlink and belkin for the wireless.
I find linksys products are very good.
I have had no problem with Netgear. My original Netgear DG-834G is still working fine after years of 24/7 ( I gave it to a mate when I upgraded to a newer Netgear unit with Voip ports )
Mine's a Billion 7500 and it's been running perfectly for a few years. Does everything I need it to do (and a lot more I have no clue about.
Everyone has their own preferences - I bought mine after a review in APC based on value and features. Most people suggest using the same brand for your entire wireless network, so if you are looking to expand in the future this might be a consideration. It might also be an idea to look at the VOIP ones if you are planning to tinker with internet phone calls down the track.
The problem is that there is too much choice .. and now the pre-N models are around as well ...
i had a linksys had trouble with it from day 1 it went in the bin bought a dlink its fine and so are belkin.

Yeah i see there are quite a few options that each of you guys prefer and are comfortable with. I will make note of all these brands and check out their websites, that way it will give me more of an indication of what will suit my needs, which will be basic amyway.

Whats the go with Belkin.Im running a Belkin router as well as notebook network card.no probs here,actually very impressed.
I must say that in the years I've had dealing with all of the different brands, I've always found most of them to be very good. I do admit to bagging Dlink lately, but more so for their power adaptors then their units. I must have replaced at least 5 power supplies on units I've sold in the past year.

Always had issues with dlink and belkin with the wireless signal in general and the security setup.
Not sure about the new dlinks, but woudl never touch them.
I think of them as over priced junk.
Plus there is so many custom firmwares for the other brands you can pretty much do anything with them.

I use all Netgear stuff , currently a Netgear DG-834GV that has 2 voip ports built in. As I previously mentioned , my original ADSL modem was a Netgear DG-834 which is still running to this day at a mates house. Thats 24/7 for many years now , this model has an excellent reputation.
