    Cool GO730 map update

    Hi everyone,
Great forum heaps (and I mean HEAPS) of info.
Would take me forever to read everything.

I am new to this site and hope someone can assist or at least point me in the right direction.

From what I gather, to update my TT I should copy ALL files off my GPS onto my PC (including hidden ones), then install some downloaded Navcore files and maps and then running a keygen.

    I have some questions...
    1. How do I know what Navcore I need and where do I find one for DL?
    2. Do I need a Navcore when all I need are the updated maps?
    3. What is the latest Australian map and where do I find it?

According to lemonfish'c compatibility chart for v875 maps, the latest map is 875.3680 which from what I understand can only run on Navcore 9.0x and above. Is this correct?
How do I know if I can update my GPS to Navcore 10.x or any of the four versions that support the latest map....if that is indeed the latest map?

Sorry for all the questions, but if I am going to do this, I think I should have some idea of what I am doing to give myself half a chance of succeeding with the update.

Does the whole process (including downloading navcores and maps) take long to complete?
I am planning on travelling to country Victoria on the weekend and hoping I can have the latest maps on my device.

Oh, where can I find my device information?

    Thanking you in advance,

    BV

    First, follow this tutorial:

    1. If you want to use the official navcore for your particular model, then simply download all the updates from TomTom HOME until there are no more updates. Otherwise, you can continue using any version 9 navcore if it's working well and you're happy with it.

    2. No, you can continue using the navcore you already have.

    3. Australia maps are 875.3613 or 875.3615 - both links found in the tutorial mentioned above. The 875.3613 is the latest full featured map that is recommended for your model.

    4. Not correct. See above answer.

    5. Impossible. Navcore v10 can only be used with the new TomToms which use a different file system. See this thread for more info:

    6. The whole process could take anywhere from 10 minutes up to 1 hour max, depending on your download speed and computer speed.

    7. Look in the menu under Version Info. This will give you most information you need. To find out what is your exact model, you can check on the TomTom support website, for eg here:

    Hi there,
Just wanted to say thanks for your help.
I followed the tutorial and managed to update the map.

TT Home gave me a few issues because it wanted to install a new version on my PC and when that was done it found updates and then reinstalled itself.
Now the only issue it gives me is that I need to select the internal memory option twice each time I connect to my PC and TT Home starts. No big deal though, I think I will manage.

As for the maps, we'll see how it goes this weekend. Heading to Albury tomorrow.
    Hope I don't get lost.

    Thanks again.

    OMG!
Ever since the map update I have not had a problem...until today.
Every so often, I will connect the TT to my PC to run through usual updates for GPS locations, map shares etc.
However, when I did that this morning, it seemed to install some other larger file. Seemed like CAB file and ELA files for different languages etc. It took forever.

Anyway, upon completion it suggested a reboot to finish installation. I clikcked OK and off it went.

When it rebooted, it prompted me to select either internal drive or SD card as always and I chose internal. Found no updates and indicated all was good.

Now here's the problem, when I tried to use the GPS this morning, it came up with a red screen and an error..."Problem with map. Cannot use this map on this device: Australia-386".

When I click OK, it goes back to a selection screen for me to select a map from the list.
As the only map available is 'Australia', I select this and then get the same error.

Can sombody please advise what has gone wrong and how I can rectify this problem?

    Thank you.

Run FastActivate Premium and select all the buttons in order from left to right.
Download the latest version (currently 1.8.8.4) from the FastActivate thread:

I've experienced the exact same problem.

TT Home won't allow any updates without automatically downloading and installing an updated 'application' (I'm assuming navcore) which won't then recognise maps, even after running fast activate again.

The only fix I found was to install a different Navcore version.

    Hi mtv.
Did you patch the navcore too?
How did you install everything? Did you overwrite files or did you do a clean install?

Yep.... patched the navcore.... ran fast activate on everything, but after the TT Home download... nothing would make the maps load.

Ended up just overwriting the navcore.

A clean install is what I usually recommend and should work, just as in the clean install tutorial. That way, there is no conflict with any of the remaining files and you're starting from scratch, as new.

I'll test this out with my GO 730 first chance I get and report back with the results.

    Hi lemonfish,
    Thanks for your quick response.
I just dl the latest FastActivate, but once copied to the TT do I run it via my PC?
In other words, do I navigate to the root directory where I installed it and simply double click from there?
Also, the 'select the buttons in order' you mentioned, I'm guessing will appear once I run the exe, yes?

Sorry for the questions. That's what happens when you are not certain about what you are doing.

    Cheers,
    BV

Yes, copy across the file FastActivate.exe onto the TomTom drive and run it from your pc. (Of course this means you are running it from the TomTom drive that you navigate to on your pc).
Once you run it, you will see a pop-up window with 4 buttons. Select each one from left to right, waiting for each to finish.

    Hmmm, how stupid am I?

    All good now.
I copied the exe file of the latest FastActivate into the root directory of my TT.
I then navigated to the same directory via my PC and ran the exe file.
A screen appeared with 4 different buttons (running left to right) representing the different components to update/patch.
Clicked on the first, waitied for completion, clicked on the second, waited for completion etc, etc.
Disconnected the TT and tested....Voi La!
    Back to normal.

THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

    This forum rocks!!!

    BV

PS. I hope this won't happen the next time I connect to TT Home for the usual update!!!

Nope. The only time you need to rerun FastActivate is when you need a patch a new version of TomTom Home or have install new maps or premium voices to your TomTom. And the first time you add official speed/traffic cameras to the TomTom.

    Thanks Greg.
I'll keep it in mind for future reference.

Hmm, speed/traffic camera locations? Aren't they already included?
I'm sure my TT alerts me on approaching a fixed camera. I have heard it many times.

Maybe these things can be updated also.

    Thanks for your help.

If you've just installed the new map, you won't have the cams included. You have to either pay for them or manually copy paste them into the map folder.

Get the speed cameras from here:

Go to the latest posts for the latest update and you only need to activate them once (or the 1st time, which is what Greg is referring to). Every other update after that, just copy paste and overwrite the files into the map folder.

I decided to just go ahead and do it.
From the link you provided I pasted the 2 safety camera files into that Australia folder.

    Hopefully this works.

    Thanks again.

    6 months!?

Well, I guess it's time to update.
How often do maps come out? I thought it was annual.

Thanks to your assistance and links, I followed them to a 'T' and am now waiting for the restart and instal of TT Home.
    tic, tic, tic ...
    And it all seems good.

    THANK YOU again.

I seem to have lost the recent driving history though.
Nevermind, I will enter it as I need it.

    Cheers,

Maps come out 4 times a year.
Copy MapSettings.cfg from your old map folder to the new one for your driving history.
