I am contemplaing installing a new dish etc next year when my area officialy changes over and I become eligable to have VAST and I was debating mentaly (dont laugh) about installing a dual LNB and cables even though VAST is now all Vertically Polarised so you can have as many STB's running on simple splitters but in another posting a few days ago, a remark was made that maybe one day VAST might migrate from C1 to D3 and that got me thinking that if any futher expansion of the service occured, could VAST go Dual Polarisation as PayTV does now ??
I was thinking that the cost between a single and dual LNB is minimal and a few metres of Co-ax with one just left or terminated at an outlet would be cheaper to do it now rather than later.
VAST is still in its infancy and although I have no reason to suggest otherwise, have there ever been suggestions for any future changes along these lines?
What are current VAST installers doing now, a dish, single LNB and one run of cable and would they consider doing this instead if asked ??

Go the dual LNB, gordon! Future proof it while you can.
I've been recommending and installing dual 10700 LNB's for VAST.. like Smacca suggested, it covers all bases for the future and combined with a multiswitch, you can run Austar/Foxtel boxes simultaneously.. for those who have pay TV and VAST, or may do down the track.
The same with additional FTA decoders on C1/D3, or depending on the type of multiswitch, extra sats as well (with additional LNB's, etc).
C1 isnt that old but they built and launched D3 before the paint was dry on C1 and relocated the PayTV channels over pretty quickly to D3 rather than using D3 for other purposes which leaves me to think that C1 was only ever to be a short term broadcaster for TV and so Mr Spock, it locicaly follows that VAST would migrate to D3 as well and leaving C1 for what it may be better suited to.

C1 capacity was fully committed so pay TV was moved to D3 to enable them to transmit HD programs.
Following is a copy and paste from the VAST STB certification plan requiring The hard coded transponders are to be:-
Transponder Downlink Frequency (MHz)
i C1 T2 12367.00
ii C1 T4 12447.00
iii C1 T5 12487.00
iv C1 T7 (Home transponder) 12567.00
v C1 T8 12607.00
vi C1 T9 12647.00
vii D3 T1 11720.50
Clearly at some point they plan to use D3 T1 11720 MHz

Hi everyone,
I have just rebuilt after Black Sat and ready to sit on the couch ( now and again ) and watch TV , my little boy especially wants abc 2 etc.
We are in a black spot just nth of Melb and currently have an official OPTUS Aurora setup through a STRONG box . Somone suggested we could possibly get the local Melb stations & ABC 2 etc if we purchased a VAST BOX even before Melb swithes over , is this right ?
Do we need another card for a Vast Box , where do you buy a Vast Box in Melb ....any help would be much appreciated .
Thanks , Colin
If you are in the Strath Creek, Flowerdale area you can get a vast box and dish installed and subsudised by the goverment as there is no other service is that area
check this site for more info
