    G'Day,
I had a kero Silent Knight that I converted to gas circa 1960.
I still have a couple of the kero ones out on the property.
    How times have changed.
There are plenty advertised, tops seem to be 2 Grand for a 21 Litre.
You do need to clarify what you mean?
Fridge/Freezer, Fridge, Freezer or the capacity that you would be happy with.

Have you thought about a 12V fridge since you have a solar setup? I use a 40L Engle and it's good on power. There are larger models or there are the Waeco models that also have a small upright fride.

I am looking at something around this size and want to buy new ( the first one ):

B4L , about another 200 litres , Leroy, no I would prefer to go gas as I probably wont be doing a major solar upgrade for a while. Snookums, thanks for the offer but would rather buy new but probably not for another 2-3 months at this stage.

What kind of $$$ ? It says in the specs it uses 1.3mj of gas but what does that mean? I know a camping 3 way fridge lasts 2 weeks on a 9kg bottle. How long would it last on one of these? Could get expensive to run.

About 5 months from a 45 kg from what I have read. I have seen prices up to around $2500 in a google search.
But rather than just buy randomly, I was wondering if anyone knew of or had used a particular company to buy from.

Out of curiosity, how do you fill it with kero?

Sorry, missed the bus last night. That should have been cubic feet.
Cubic Feet - One cubic foot equals 28.3168466 liters.

    Correction, 21 cf = ~595 Litres.

Gas fridges that size new don't sell cheap. Even second hand on evilbay they usually go for over $1000.

My bro-in-law got one that size second or 10th hand cheap at the recycle centre. It needed about $150 of maintenance to make it work like new so he got a bargain, but then he works there.

They do go through a fair bit of gas, not the cheapest option if connected to grid power, but off grid they are probably the best option.

Big 12 volt fridge/freezers are available, but unlike their smaller camping counterparts they chew a lot of power. You would need 1 - 2kw+ of solar panels to run the fridge alone to keep it running under cloud.

The other 12V option would be to get two Engel camping fridges. Use one as a dedicated fridge and the other as a dedicated freezer. Engels draw less power, but the rotten things are incredibly expensive to buy in the first place. So we're back to gas, which I think is probably the best long term off grid option.

Yep , thats my thoughts exactly and I arrived at the same conclusion. I dont have a problem with paying $2500ish for a large gas fridge.....I thinks that about what I paid for the electric fridge I have
