Exclamation TUTORIAL: How to install a VocalizerTTS computer voice on 32Mb ONE models

Here are the simple steps to install a computer voice on your 32Mb device (or any TomTom device). We will be using a VocalizerTTS voice "Samantha" with the 8.562 SE navcore.

NOTE: You CAN use a different SE navcore if you wish, (such as 8.412 or 9.205) but for the purposes of this tutorial we'll stick with the well known 8.562 navcore.

First of all, here are the download links you'll need:

    - Download the LATEST working link from one of the latest posts of this thread (which is currently post #77 ) - File size: 36.2 MB

    - File size: 19.22 MB

    1) Download VocalizerTTS - Samantha from the link above.

    2) Assuming you have patched your map and everything else is working ok, proceed by extracting the Samantha voice.

    3) Make sure you copy the folder called VocalizerTTS into the root of the TomTom drive or to the root of the SD card if your device uses one. Basically, all you do is copy paste this folder into the TomTom drive - simple!

When you open the VocalizerTTS folder, it should contain the folders "common" and "enu" and a file called "vmobile_select_samantha_bet2f22.hdr". In other words, make sure there isn't another VocalizerTTS folder within a folder.

This is where some people go wrong. The folder must be called VocalizerTTS. If you have downloaded a VocalizerTTS computer voice from somewhere else, then you MUST rename it to VocalizerTTS.

    4) Open the Config folder, then open the setconfig.txt file. Make sure you remove the line ttsoff if it is present. Below is a copy of my setconfig.txt file for my ONE v1 (New Edition):

    changedtext:TomTom ONE
    bton
    fmoff
    SDid:1
    usesetting

You can copy the above exactly as is into your setconfig.txt file if you wish.

    5) Reboot your TomTom and select the computer voice Samantha.

There is an Australian TTS voice "Karen" but it doesn't work in 32Mb devices. The only English TTS voices available are Samantha and Serena (UK and US voices).

Kate (Uk) is available in V6 (over 200mb but should work fine on low mwm devices) and in the standard version7.

    Thanks Downunder.
So is Kate (UK) a VocalizerTTS voice?
Can you upload it here or do you have a link?

Nope it is a LoquendoTTS voice but requires far less power and Ram than the current Loquendo voices.
I'm currently working on a clean and complete version for V6 and V7 Kate, once finnished I will upload them with some instructions on how to change to pronounciation.

The config folder is just a folder in the root. If you download the above navcore you will see it.

If you download the 9.170 SE navcore, you won't need to edit it. You can just copy paste the VocalizerTTS folder directly to the root and away you go:

Why not use a 9.5xx Navcore and the Loquendo Kate?

Samantha seems to be very well documented. I am a n00b to this scene -- gotta start somewhere :-).
If anyone has a link, it would be greatly appreciated!

The 9.510 with auto power on can easily be found over my profile - search started threads.
Computer voices can be downloaded from the TT servers directly.
A simple search with with Google give within the first three hits....
