    Default PCMCIA Pheonix card reader/programer

Is there such a thing as a PCMCIA Pheonix card reader/programer? Just a bit more compact if you use a laptop all the time like I do. Also all the new laptops these days don't have serial ports!

    they are called PCSC reader/writers

gem pc have some as well as other companies ( i have a gem )

but they may not do what you want as they use specialized software because they were designed for security access EG: banks etc and the software we use here for our hobby has not been written with them in mind.

When installed the reader is read by the computer as just that a card reader writer and does not assign it a com port which all our software requires to connect to and as such would be usless.

So as mentioned either get a usb to rs232 or just get a pcmcia to rs232 card

If there was a driver to assign a com port to the device it would probably be perfect. I already use a usb/serial dongle but it doesn't function the same as true com port becasue some applications and hardware don't always work. The laptop does have a built in com port but I need to use the port replication/dock to use it as the db9 is on the dock!

    Thanks.....Leroy
