Anything less and you're kidding yourself.
Hi all,
After misplacing my USB memory stick recently, it dawned upon me how much sensitive (work) related information I keep on there, between home, work & on the road. Luckilly it was located and all is well.
But what would be nice is to find some sort of encryption package to keep vital contents of the USB secure & safe from prying eyes should it ever be lost again. Here's the tricky bit: the software must be able to run from the USB and not need installing or require any files to be put on the host PC, and be usable on OSes from W98 to Win7. Need to secure xls, doc, txt documents. Any suggestions?
I'm also presuming the secure storage of exe files in a zip archive with password secures it enough?
The level of security I'm aiming for is 'industrial espionage' level.

If you feed ducks at a pond, chances are your bound to feed a goose or two without even knowing it.
If the exe files are simple programs, like utilities and so forth, there is probably no need to secure them at all.
If they are proprietary programs that require protection, then no - a zip archive with password is not secure. Passworded zips can be cracked.
The issue with any form of encryption is knowing its history and where it's been created. Don't use anything that's made in the USA, Australia, The UK etc. There are various mandates to include backdoors into software created in these countries.

This is a mobile system ideally suited to USB flash drives.
