Problem flashing MS28 drive

I am trying the last few days to flash a MS28 drive which i have just received in a repaired xbox 360. I can see the drive in the bios but once windows starts i cant find it anywhere. I have tried dosflash32 but this did not work our either.

My mainboard has a nforce 4 chipset. Any ideas what to try?

different chipset might be required

i know that a via would be better but i cant change my mainboard just to flash the drive. if i dont find a solution i will have to buy a via sata controller.

Thanks but i have just ordered a sata controller from dealextreme. Cost me 12.- delivered and i am not in a hurry. Thanks

mtkflash and nforce will work but you will need to install a switch in the rom to allow flashing

i have purchased it from they send the stuff from china. about 12 dolalr delviered which is more than fair.

mtkflash does not even find the drive no matter what i try. i did flash a ms25 and a old hitachi on the mainboard with no problems but the ms28 jsut doesnt want to... i cant even read it

if you have done a 25 then you can do a 28 you need to install a switch in the rom and do the 2 sec trick
all the via dose is allow a force dump but not all via work

could you go a bit more into detail what exactly you mean. After a few days reading the via chipset i have ordered seems to be the one that works

atm I have got a amd xp2400 pc with VIA VT8237 and it flashed my ms28 drive fine.

it is setup as my 360 backup machine. for backing up my bought games. $100 per game is too much to throw away when the kids get near them.

that deals extreme, I was going to buy a couple of xbox 360 items from them signed up and forgot to add them to my favourites. then couldnt find the site again in history or temp files.

try without switch and 10 second method first

i have tried it all. does not work. as soon as i try to read the firmware i get a error mesage or it freezes. i have tried pretty much everything i have read including leaving a dvd rom connected, a hard drive connected, switching off ide....

the weirdest thing is that i cant find the drive in windows when i start the pc up with it

have tried 10 sec trick ect only works with via chipset
i have intel chipset can do all drives just a bit fiddley with some
with the ms28 you need to remove a resistor an replace with a switch
and boot xbox with switch open to allow dump mode then close switch and
run mtkflash 2 sec later
if you want to try it will post info tomorrow its all in shed workshop

dealextreme works for me.

I just bought 1 of those via 6421 pci sata controller cards.

Hopefully they work with the ms28 drive.

Hang on dont need it as I have on board via vt 8237 chipset.

oh well will keep this just incase.
