    Default Rechargeable Solar Light Batteries

We have a large solar powered street-style lamp post in the garden which has worked well for a few years.... at least until the the batteries died. My idiot uncle replaced them with non-rechargeable batteries for some reason - of course they didn't last long.

What type of battery is best for this device? As have no clue what was originally in them. It takes AA sized batteries, but are NiCad or NiMH better? And are ones with a higher ampere rating better?

    Thanks, RHCP.

Not nece-celery. High capacity cells often have high self discharge. The latest generation of LSD low self discharge Sanyo Eneloop nimh cells are probably the best AA cell around. Though high self discharge doesn't matter if it's being recharged every day. You could probably just throw any old thing in it.

Thanks for the info. I'll see what they have in the shop today. And as you say, probably anyone thing will do the job.
I was also just wondering if some batteries had lower impedance or in other words, were easier to charge - apparently the LSD batteries also have a low impedance values.

    Thanks, RHCP.

most often in those types of lights they used a smaller capacity NiCd battery, 700 or 800Mah is pretty common as the solar panel doesn't have enough output to charge larger capacity cells, in that respect perhaps the LSD batteries might be preferable to what else is available but it's really to do with the charge requirement of the battery I think
