Default Testing day/night cameras with IR pass filter

90% of the cameras we are installing are day/night cameras. Some are true day/night some not, some have IR illuminators some don't.

I'm looking for a filter or some solution to simulate night-time viewing. I've tried an IR pass filter (720nm) but was not pleased with the results.

    Welding goggle glass.

What in particular weren't you happy with?

You need an ND (Nutral Density) filter rather than the IR pass filter. As you've no doubt discovered, there's bucket loads of ambient IR floating around during the day, especially in sun light. ND filters cut light through the entire spectrum thus should produce results closer to what you're looking for. Don't expect to be able to test IR illuminators during the day though.

The ND2-ND400 is a good option it allows you to vary the amount of light that gets through.
You can get them cheap now as low as $30 and the IQ is ok.

It is the best way to simulate a narrow depth of field so that you can truly have the subject in focus of a night time without having to focus it up of a night time to check.
