Hi guys just curious where do ten,central,imparja,7central where do they originate from what state. As they are all on eastern states time even though my dox is in South Australia

AFAIK there are only 3 VAST zones, eastern north (QLD time based on Qld news), eastern south (NSW/Vic time, mix of NSW and Vic news depending on channel) SA and NT are half hour behind. WA is the other zone. Look at the SAT TV guide

um no sa are not 30 minutes behind my box is activated as south australia and it is in line with the eastern states how do i know this the news is on at 5.30pm

Is that channel 10 news

Their news is on at 5pm. As I said, there is no SA or NT zone. As you have found out SA is on eastern south zone and NT is on eastern north zone the same as Qld.

news starts at 4.30pm till 6.00pm. so its clear SA have the same channels and times as Victoria, NSW ,Tasmania etc. And i had LIVE NRL on imparja this year here in SA

The Uplink to C1/D3 I think is located in Sydney but the 'studio' where the programming originates most likely is in each of the Commercial Terrestial Broadcasters and then sent to Optus by Cable or microwave to be then 'sent' to the satelitte.
In reality the studio location could be anywhere in Australia or any country in the world or even on a ship at sea so long as it has a reliable connection to the satelitte Uplink.
Like those God Awefull Indian or Philipino Telemarketers, all they need is a clock showing the Time Zone their calling.

Southern Cross in Canberra control all the 7 and 10 channels on VAST. In fact all Southern Cross's/Southern Cross Ten's in Australia come from there. Imparja in Alice Springs do all the 9 channels. All the North channels are based on Brisbane metro schedules, and the South channels (including HD) are based on either Sydney or Melbourne schedules.

SCTV North = 7 Bris
7TWO North = 7TWO Bris
SCTV South = 7 Melb
7TWO South = 7TWO Melb
7mate = 7mate Melb

Ten North = Ten Bris
Eleven North = Eleven Bris
Ten South = Ten Melb
Eleven South = Eleven Melb
One HD = One HD Melb

Imparja North = Nine Bris
GO! North = GO! Bris
Imparja South = Nine Syd
GO! South = GO! Syd
Gem = Gem Syd

But is Imparja physically based in Alice Springs or is that just their 'Business Address' the same as Austar has a Gold Coast address but except for the administration I doubt anything else originates from there.

Imparja are based in Alice Springs but have a studio at Mt Isa also.

Yep, presentation control is in Alice. Gem is a dirty TCN feed, so they technically control only 4 channels from there.

For those interested, presentation control for the WA channels is from Canberra (GWN7/7TWO/7mate) and Ingleburn, NSW (WIN/GO!/Gem/Ten West/Eleven/One HD).

Hi a friend has vast and lives in northern tablelands nsw ,,near qld boarder .They get victorian news on some of the channels,box came from melbourne company...can they apply to get activation changed to northern qld so they can get the news thats near their locallity instead of victorian news

I don't think so......if you fall into the Area of Vast East South, you can only get those channels

I think you would need to live in Queensland or Northern Territory to get the Vast East North channels,

They can ask, but I don't like their chances, as all of NSW is part of the VAST East South area.

They should still be able to get regional news for their area, regardless where they are.

This means ALL of NSW is now receiving the main evening news at 5pm on 10 VAST from Melbourne instead of Sydney?
Regional news is important and I know mine is covered on 420 but so is the News from your State Capitol as thats where it all happens politicaly and economicaly irrespective of where you live in the State.
I dont know the technicalities of achieving this but why cant the '400' news channels be utilised in conjuction with the 'Base' channel and show each State's Capitol News either 'Live' or on delay?
They cant say their in full use as most of the day all they run is the Digital loop through them.

The programs are basically the same as the terrestrial transmissions anyway. They are all 7, 9, and 10 and addons. The only difference is the ads which are immaterial. Who in Tasmania is really interested in the REINT etc

rodnic, as you say the physical location is immaterial but it helps to understand why we get ads for such diverse areas and how they may have 'divided' up the Terrestial areas.

This is in a way simlar to the 000 number when you call and get an operator 100's of kilometres away who has no local knowledge of the area your calling from.
The NSW state railway has done the same with the remote signaling for a large part of regional NSW being located near Newcastle.
One time there was the possibilty of all of regional NSW being combined into a location at Adelaide.

The ad situation is certainly a mystery. Even with terrestrial in Toowoomba for an example we get Win which has mainly local ads but GEM and Go have ads for Townsville and Cairns. Go figure. Makes a mockery of the encryption so you only get to see 'local' ads.

I like VAST where there are only a few ads.
