    Unhappy Confused newbie Optus D2

    Hi,

We had our dish setup with a phoenix decoder box watching all the FTA channels on the D2 satellite, however as of recent the channels now seem to have lost signal. I have had a small play around and have found the Strength to be at 82 and the quality to be at 42. No matter what i try to do however i can not get the quality or strength to raise at all. I have gotten the quality to a max of about 50 by playing with the lnb, but then the strength drops.

The thing that has me confused is why the sudden drop in Quality which now has made all channels unviewable.

Any help on things i can do to get my service back up and running would be appriecated.

    Thanks

If strength goes down, that's usually no problem, as in most receivers, Quality is the key. Maximum quality = maximum signal. Short answer.

Funny i find this post as tommorow morning im going to my dads to findout why his Pheonix has had a signal drop on d2 and pas8.

Something tells me the power supply may have shit itself as its changing channels very slowly and signal is below 50.

I will take a voltage tester for 13/18v test, spare lnb and receiver up with me for testing.

My money is on the pheonix has cooked itself.

Thanks for the responses so far.

One thing i have found is that she phoenix box is quiet a crappy box and the lnb that was used only allows one polarity, wont allow both horizontal and vertical at the same time..

Let me know how you go with your dads box tommorow global88

Just one thing have you tried to power off the box via the power point or switch on the back incase its frozen?

Try it to see if it snaps out of it.

Yes i will post results tomorrow arvo/night.

Have a dead Phoenix Fta reciever here, dead power supply. It worked fine for 6month of use on b3 then the change over to D2 all ok,then it died suddenly.now a fine bookend in the workshop.as to your quality issue if you got good strength then a fine adjust on the lnb for twist a bit more should bring it up? But lnb die also.if you swap it out with a new one may be the fix.
One more thing as to levels, has anyone change the lnb settings in the installation menu by any chance an now it doesnt match what is actually up at infront of your dish??eg you have universal setting instead of say 11300 that may actually be on front of your dish? just a thought as some changes had to be changed for freq.etc during rescan for channels on the earlier B3 to D2 change over an some people I know reset their boxes to factory default an then changed setting an rescanned ,ommiting to reconfig their lnb settings correctly.

I am starting to come to the conlusion that is it a power issue with the box rather then the lnb. Reason for this is that as of late there has been a slight vertical scrolling on the screen, like its trying to refresh the screen. I thought initally this may have been due to the fact of it being run through a RF output of the box, however having it plugged in via the AV inputs we are still having that issue and it should be crystal clear through the AV and not have any verticle scrolling on it. Is this one of the symptoms you guys had before your boxes died?

Before anyone can make logical reasons or suggestions, we need to know exactly what you have done.
    Possibilities:
    The LNB has expired.
    The LNB skew has moved.
Your mounting is loose and the dish has moved in azimuth or elevation.
Loose connections or short where F connectors crimp to Co-ax.
Then of course, possible problems with your receiver.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

Thanks for the reply beer for life.

To let you know what i have actually done.

Initially checked all settings on the box, and they all seem to be fine. So correct transponder frequencies set and lnb settings the way it should be.
Dish has not moved at all in azimuth or elevation. As its al been secured quiet well. I did forget however to check connections so will go and do that now. But apart from that everything seems to be the way it should be.

I did play with the skew of the lnb, but am only getting very slight changes in quality, so up from quality of 40 to a max of 50, where as we used to have 98in quality.

Just got back from my dads and in my case it was the phoenix that had it.

Just pluged in my Strong 4658x and all was good, put phoenix back on and no pics. Lnb settings, etc were all good so yeah receiver shit itself.

My advice if your not sure is plug in a known working receiver to compare when dealing with cheap units. May save you getting the ladder out and playing with connections, lnb's and dish point.

Try in your LNB menu, Universal or other, and if 9.75 and 10.6 are not there, manually type them in and save.
Those are your two Local Oscillator Frequencies.

I find that you are making duplicate posts in different sections. This is most annoying as it detracts from those users that follow good practice and wait for answers to their questions.

I do hope that a moderator will take you to task over this.
