Default New Vast PVRs now available

Just rang Acessantennas and they confirmed that they have the latest PVR box in store now for $322.00.

No news on the replacement Remote though, he said maybe next week!

So now we have a DSD4121PVR available if you want another box.
    What if you don't

Quote from Satplus: NOTE - For those of you who have already purchased a DSD4121 VAST decoder who would like to upgrade the decoder to enable the PVR functions, an upgrade pack will be made available by January/February 2012.

Soooon is getting further away for the first up VAST UEC owners.
If the software works why not make it available along with the remote

Must remember, UEC are in business to make money.
What better way to do so, by delaying the release of firmware and a PVR version remote control, by forcing people to either wait, or go buy the upgraded model.

    Frustrating....yes
    More money for UEC........yes
    Win win for them.

At least the remotes will be available sometime in the future.
In the meantime, the PVR versions are now being advertised.

Looks to be an extra $50-70 extra for the PVR box than the non PVR version.

it's the same box, just with the pvr firmware.

the firmware is useless without the pvr remote and activation key.

the pvr kit to upgrade your current box will include the remote and activation key and possibly an optional usb h.d.

Correct.... but you have to supply an external (powered) USB HDD.

Actually, it's only $43 extra for the box with the included PVR remote.

The non-PVR box sells for $279

You still need to supply your own external (powered) USB HDD with either the PVR box, or just the add-on PVR remote, when it's available separately.

    Something to ponder

1: As soon as one of these upgraded boxes is activated; UEC is technically running 2 different decoders, different firmware & function!
OK the field test decoders have been in this situation as well, however, now its not a test.
UEC must have an agreement with OPTUS on license fee or are they allowed under the license agreement to run 2 different decoders, maybe as an extended public field test?

2: Can travelers activate more than 1 VAST box, one for each end of the caravan/mobile home or stacked to have a twin tuner setup?
Not that most would want to justify that, just to be using the PVR function.

3: Although $43 extra seems reasonable, the UEC4121 is way over priced to start with.

Hmmm, maybe sometimes I think too much.
    Cheers, Tiny

I think you would get a conflict with 2 decoders stacked ,the remote would play havok with them.

It's not too bad if you have 1 standard and 1 PVR. You can throw the PVR into standby to use the standard box, and the PVR remote would never conflict with the standard box either.

So will this accept a USB memory stick or only an external powered HDD ?

And playback, reconnect the HDD to anything or only back through the UEC?

I have a little HP 80 GB HDD USB powered that I used on a Strong Digital Terrestial STB without any problems so I will be curious to see if it will work if and when I have access to a VAST stb at some future date.
This may be sooner than later as my youngest is moving to an area where they only have a self help site that is slated to be turned off next year.

I thought the 'New' PVR enabled R/C's were locked to each STB individualy which meant you could have 50 stacked together and only have one respond to the R/C?

Only Externally powered HDD ......is what UEC recommend

the reason being (I think) that there is not enough power at the STB USB, to power external devices

I think you would have a valid argument for having Two Vast STB's in a caravan.....

no twin tuner STB's are available......so you need Two Vast STB's to record one channel & watch another

I hope the Vast Travelers Activation people are understanding of this....

It must be an externally powered hard drive. Any drive that draws power from the USB will not work (like a thumb drive, memory stick or larger pocket drives). It must be one that can be plugged into mains power. A good rule of thumb is to avoid using anything that says 2.5" or USB 3.0 as these are usually USB-powered.

I believe Osirus can answer that question.

Exactly. The box was never designed to be a PVR, so the USB port on all the boxes in existence now were designed for basic firmware updates, not to juice up external power-hungry devices.

Remember when recording with the UEC, not to go by the tv guide as the setting for the recording of the show, as the guide is invariably wrong, and you will miss out on the end of a show.
In the pvr menu there is a record start and end offset...use that...you will be glad.

Is there anything on the 'Travellers' activation form or the resultant authorisation that states that you are limited to ONE only STB?
I havent looked at or used the form so this could be answered better by those who have been approved.
