I had the issue while back, it was a virus, don't remember which one though as I had to rebuild my system anyway (due to NAV problems).
Lately when I open my Outlook Express to check my emails there is tens of bounced back emails from people that are out of their office etc from people I don't know. Could there be a virus or something in my PC that is send out bucket loads of spam emails to everywhere?

Thanks heaps
This is call backscatter , it's fast becoming as much of a problem as spam itself .
Your PC could be infected with a spam sending trojan so do a full virus scan , or you could be a victim of whats known as a "Joe Job" where a spammer forges your email address into spam that of course when not delivered is returned to you.
The problem is made worse by irresponsible mail server owners / ISP's that stupidly bouncing undeliverable messages back to sender , This is a total waste of time because as any fool knows the spam itself is never going to be returned to the spammers themselves , it will always be returned to a innocent third party like yourself or someone else that had nothing to do with spamming to begin with .
Blacklists around the world are taking a very aggressive stance against ISP's etc who let their servers bounce messages , Some home users are also silly enough to set their email programs up to bounce messages causing similar problems.
NEVER bounce spam or use out of office replies !

Go here: and use the online scanner... it works very well. Sorted out a few PCs with this tool. Excellent if your AV has been knocked out or not dealing to the problem.

It's interesting my system just downloaded a windows update:
Maybe that's what you need?Install this update to resolve an issue in which a user is unable to use Windows Internet Explorer 7 to download files on a computer that is running Windows XP with IME enabled. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.
More information for this update can be found at
Thanks Fromaron
