Cigar Lighter Socket

Hi

I like to replace my cigar lighter socket which have the ceramic base. I think it had shorted. I am unable to find the part number. Does it come as part of a console or I can change that part only. Is it rivetted together?

It may help heaps if you tell us what type of car it is I once had a 1978 Torana and it's lighter was held in place with a big lock nut at the back of the unit. Some one on the forum may have the same car as you but all the makes differ in some way.

You can buy them as an aftermarket replacement unit from most automotive stores, or you can go to the manufacturer of your car and get the genuine original part, or you can go to a car wreckers and get almost any unit out of any car - they are pretty much all the same.

Super cheap auto sell them.

Never heard of one riverted on. You could always drill out the old riverts. They are normaly held on the back with a single bolt and bracket or a single large nut.

If you think its shorting, test it before going through all the trouble of changing it.

I did have one that use to blow fuses with my mobile phone charger. It was the earth contact inside the lighter hole that needed a little bending.

Yes its a Mercdes Benz C220 1994 model.
