Hi,
silly question and excuse me if it is as I'm quite new to this sort of thing...

I have garmin xt on my nokia 6110 navigator, can I use these maps to update the 2009 ones on there?

yes you can. just replace the img file already in the Garmin folder on your phone. only the img file will really be of any use in GarminXT

The file you need to replace will be called something like GMAPSUPP.img or GMAPPROM.img

Thanks for this. I recently purchased a low end Garmin. It came with very old maps City Navigator Australia and New Zealand NT 2012.10 and there have already been three updates since this release.

I thought the Garmin range now came with free lifetime map updates? If you bought your unit recently you should be eligible.

The Nuvi 2350, Nuvi 2250, Nuvi 2360LT, Nuvi 2350, nuvi 40, Nuvi 500
just to mention a few are all low end units and
these don't come with lifetime updates at the time of purchase
you have to pay extra for the "lifetime updates" from garmin

all the above except for the nuvi 500 are all under $250 new and all are current models

Must depend on the offer they are running. We recently got some basic units at work, all come with the lifetime map updates.

But even the low end units offer the download of the latest maps within 90 days of the unit getting satellite access.

Exactly. Since most of the GPS units sold will most likely never contain the latest map since you never know how long they have been sitting on the shelf for.

The unit is the 1450t which only comes with ree lifetime traffic updates via the Suna traffic channel. No lifetime maps, that are only available on the LM models or with selected models via a promo when run.

They do however offer 1 free map update after registering within 90 days from the date the GPS first acquires a satellite connection.

Although I would wait till the next map update since they are released quarterly. So there should be another one shortly. Or just download the latest map from here when available.
