Signal meters arent worth a damn if you dont know which satellite your pointing at.[/QUOTE]
I know this is not the place to put this and i'm not doing the seller any free advertising, but have a look at this finder it's worth a look
It depends on the meter.. some display the NIT (Network Identification Table) so you know which satellite you are on.
Very useful, especially when you have the same frequencies in use on different sats.
It's not so easy when you don't have a meter with that function, as it's easy to get signals confused, which is why tuning a transponder which is unique to a particular satellite helps locate that bird easier.

The box is on its way back to where I brought it from and they seem helpfull so I hope to get a new one back before Xmas!
Yeah Gordon, it would have been good to test my mates box at my place but just a bit too much driving etc. I am fairly sure my dish is pointing the right way and I have a 10700 LNB installed so should be good to go.
With nothing on my TV screen (no menu etc) from my faulty box I will have to wait an see.
I am near Cessnock some good investigating there.

MTV, I meant the $10 'Howls its Head off' type like I use, definately not a pro unit like yours or a decent unit with any sort of features to identify the satelitte.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Also, often mentioned, it makes it easier if you select a Transponder/Polarity as the Satellite of interest that is unique to that Satellite.Originally Posted by gordon_s1942
Which is exactly what they've done. Vast / 12448 V / 30000. This has been used to extol the virtues of that unit erroneously, as it is no better than a cheap Sat Finder used with the decoder or a small portable unit. " Kangput springs to mind. It's even cheaper.
Certainly not worth the money they are asking.
And, it is false advertising stating the same can be done with other Satellites.
Well it might be a bit pricey but still you get a good unit and it can be programmed for different satellites.

An update on this.
I sent the box back to where I brought it from and the guy testing it called me and said it was working fine! WTF!
I asked him to test it over night and send it back if it was ok which he did and guess what, it now works fine at my place!

Interesting as I guess most would have the dish in place ready and connect the STB and turn it on and see the menu as expected rather than the other way around.

G'Day Cobber.
Yes you can, But only if the units are correctly connected.
The TV source and decoder output must be set to the same protocol as well.
Perhaps you neglected to change the source in the TV Menu?Originally Posted by newy12134

Gents, I think some people are still not clear on what the initial fault was with my STB.
The fault was, I could not get any output to my TV or any TV I connected the box to, from either the HDMI or the AV. This fault was not related to any dish alignment or smart cards etc.
Due to there being no output from the STB I could not see any menus on the TV screen.
So there was no card activation problem ?No, there was no problem with my TV settings or any user error on my part, the box just magically worked fine on the suppliers test bench!
Why did it work magically on the suppliers test bench!
Could it be that when it did not work, pushing to many of the wrong buttons....etc confused the STB
Glad you got it going

Who has called/taken something to be fixed only to have the bleedin' thing perform perfectly when being looked at ???
Being an electronic devise there is a built in 'Show the Idiot Up' program that activates usualy on a Friday/Saturday of a long weekend or a long awaited special event is to come on and shit itself only to perform better than new when either of the above is over and the bloke who has travelled across the Simpson Desert is there with Sonic Screwdriver in hand????
Insert one of a dozen other scenarios in place of the 2 I quoted.
