Default Uec DSD4121 stb box issues

    Hello

I am after some advise from the DSD4121 owners out there.

I have just purchased a brand new STB, (my first and only one).

I plugged it into power and it goes through the startup process, it shows 'boot' on the screen of the STB and the TV displays a blank purple screen for about 3 secs then the TV screen goes totally blank and the STB shows 'SCAN' on its screen.

Pressing any buttons on the remote does nothing except for the power button.

I have tried this with the dish (newly installed by me) connect and with it disconnected.

If I power the STB off via the remote and turn it back it shows a channel on its screen, I have seen channel 10, 11, 21, 31 etc on there, but still nothing on the TV screen. Still no buttons on the remote do anything and nothing on the TV sceen.

I have tried the AV output and the HDMI output connected to my TV.

Also tried it with the smartcard removed and it does the same thing.

Do I have a faulty box?

    Thanks

How do you know that in fact, you are pointing at Optus C1/D3?

You cannot just point it at the sky, and hope for the best!

It must be adjusted to less than one degree in both Azimuth and Elevation, as well as LNB Skew and Focal length.

We'll help all we can, but need to know exactly what you have done so far.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

When the STB is first powered up it will do an automatic scan,

don't try to stop this at this stage...

it is important that your dish is setup with very good signal pointing to Optus C1/D3

after scanning if you are pointing to the Satellite with enough Signal strength & signal Quality you should momentarily get a picture like this (below)

You then have a short wait to decrypt the Pics..... on a channel

or you may need to register /activate your card.......?

    Good Luck

You say you installed the dish, the big question is how and I dont mean screwing it to the roof, what equipment did you use to align it correctly with C1/D3?
While we dont want your actual address a town or general area and State can help.
Also have you got the STB authorised yet to receive anything but even so it should have stopped scanning and I believe channel 800 should be viewable.

As Beer4life says, more details please.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Can you try the DSD4121 STB on an Austar or Foxtel Aligned Satellite dish, that is known to be working OK..... ?

That will be my next test, I have a mate 30mins drive away that has his setup and working I may have to go and try my STB at his palace.

The main question (forget about dish alignment) I have is can you take a brand new DSD4121 out of the box with it not connected to a dish, connect it to your TV and be able to bring the STB menu up on the TV screen?

I hear what you are saying no probs. I am sure I have pointing in the right direction. Elevation 51.1, Azimuth (true north) +8.7, and LNB Skew 7.3 degrees.

I got a good signal on my signal strength metre.

Thanks Osirus, but as I said in my first post is I am getting nothing on the TV from the STB (I only have one TV so can not test on another).

No menu, nothing, and has only seen a full purple screen on my TV while the bax says boot on its LED screen.

While you box is in the scanning process what can you do to stop it?

Now it's clearer to me, you have not correctly connected the box to the TV.

Are you using AV out or RF out
If RF out you need to scan the TV to find what channel the box is on.
Select Menu on the box and after scanning find which channel it is on.

The Full purple screen is a bit of a worry......I have not seen this........check your (settings) & cables are correctly connected to the TV etc

Could be a problem with the TV.....?

You don't have a Samsung TV do you ? (& trying to use HDMI)

Maybe try Composite connections or Component connections too......

If you have no signal going to the STB.....

when The STB starts to scan, I think you can stop the scan by pressing Exit (on the standard DSD 4121 STB)

Then you can select the Menu, by pressing the menu button

You can then change the LNB settings etc.......

(BTW the New PVR Model Vast STB contains a very good installation assistant, that can be accessed by pressing the help button , if no signal is found)

    I also suggest giving it a rest....overnight,

Also turn off all power to the STB, & power in cables going to the STB before changing any cables..... (otherwise you could blow something up)

If you Fail to get it going ....... you need to take it to someone for testing......maybe the guy you bought it from

    Two possible issues.

    1. Dish/LNB not aligned correctly, as mentioned.

    2. How do you have the box connected to your TV?.... by default, the output is 576i so (I think) only the composite (yellow red white cables) might work until you can enter the menu to select a higher quality output... eg: HDMI.

The constant booting/searching is a good indication the dish/LNB is not set up correctly.

Its offical, the box is RS.

Took it to my mates place where he has a box working and we found no output on either AV or HDMI from my box. Bummer, now I have to sort out warranty.

    G'Day Cobber.
    Here I am!
You've probably got the User Manual, but this goes one step further.
I don't recall you saying what LNB you are using, or what the box is set to.
They must be the same. That would explain why it did not work at your mate's place.
You should be using a Twin/10700 LNB.

But if you need to use an 11.3GHz LNBF you can change it by doing the following.
    Press MENU
    Select 5) ADVANCED OPTIONS
Select 2) INSTALLATION SETUP and press OK
    Enter PIN 1234
    Select 2) LNB SETUP
Change 5) LNB FREQ from 10700 to 11300 (use the left arrow on RCU to delete exisiting numbers)
Please note the LNBF frequency is not changed during a factory reset.
How to change the LNBF Settings to Universal
    Press MENU
    Select 5) ADVANCED OPTIONS
Select 2) INSTALLATION SETUP and press OK
    Enter PIN 1234
    Select 2) LNB SETUP
Change 2) LNB TYPE from SINGLE to DUAL
Change 3) LNB Low Frequency (MHz) to 9750
Change 4) LNB High Frequency (MHz) to 10600
    Select 5) Accept these changes
    and rescan
Have a good read, it should sort out your problem.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

That manual has no reference to the UEC DSD4121 VAST Decoder.

Not good news Newy, lets hope you can get it sorted ASAP.
Now while your waiting, may I suggest you press your friendship abit and get your mate to bring his STB to your place and try out the dish so that when the STB returns, you'll be up and running.

Also you shouldn't need to alter the LNB setting the Vast box comes set up with a 10.700

I had one that did a similar thing, but it was more of a gradual failure, as it was previously working.

    No output.. like yours.

From memory, I think the display died too, soon afterwards, suggesting it's a power supply issue.

UEC replaced it (and the card).

Without a working decoder, it would be difficult to tell.

He's checked it on a correctly-alingned dish and the box is faulty, so until he has a working decoder available... he won't know if the dish is set up correctly..... that's the next step.

This is why I suggested he ask his mate to try his known working VAST stb on his dish to ensure it is correctly set up and if not, then he can get it ready for when he gets a replacement for the non working one.
Signal meters arent worth a damn if you dont know which satellite your pointing at.
