Default New house has 2 dishes, no decoders

    Hi Folks,

Complete satellite noob here; I've just bought a house that has two dishes - one large (about 2m) and one small (about 50cm). I don't have any interest in paying for satellite TV services, but before I pull them down (at least the big one) I was wondering what extra equipment I'd need to access FTA content, and if this has any advantages over DVB-T broadcasts. In particular, I run a mythtv setup, so a computer-based decoder would be nice, but I have no idea what is compatible with Australian broadcasting (are the broadcasts DVB-S?)

Any help or pointers would be appreciated, or other suggestions for a dish too (e.g. death ray)

You'll need a satellite receiver to begin with. If they're existing working installations then that's prob all you'll need. The big dish is a c band dish while the other is a Ku. Have a look on lyngsat.com/asia.html for a bit of an idea of what you can receive.

    hello,

does the large c band dish look like its motorised? is there a rod pointing out of it that may look something like this:

if that is the case you may be able to put the mesh dish to some decent use.

You can get a cheap dream box clone or an open box s10 fairly cheap online.

There is plenty of instruction online or advice you could get from forums like this on how to align it for the first time.
