Netgear router probs
Hi all,
I have a Netgear WGR614 v6 wireless router that has been working fine for some time.
A few days ago both my wifi laptop and wifi pda could not see the wireless network. (as its now non existent).
The lights look ok on the router. Shows internet is available ect.
I am unable to log ito the router using the default access of 192.168.1.1
The explorer window just times out and indicates the page could not be found.
I have reset the router using the default button but no change.
I even plugged the router directly into the ethernet port on the back of my pc cutting out the modem but no change.
Im guessing the router is r00ted
Anyone come across something like this before?
Thanks.

Have you tried the default value of
user: admin
password: password
This is the way in once reset me thinks.
Did you power off the router for 2 minutes? This sometimes helps.
I have the same problem occassionally. The router locks up and needs a power off.

Thanks for the reply mate.
I did try 192.168.0.1 with no luck. The bottom sticker indicates that the default is 192.168.1.1 though.
I just powered it up and reconnected after being off over night and tried it but no luck.
Thanks again.

If you are sure that it has been reset to factory defaults, (You have to keep the reset pressed in for a while) then try at the windows command prompt ping 192.168.1.1 see if it responds if it doesn't then as you said it's dead.
Cheers

make sure your IP address is also in the same subnet as the router.
i.e. type ipconfig in command prompt
if the IP address and gateway match the unit then the router is working
otherwise DHCP is turned off and you need to change the IP manually to match the correct subnet and then Ping the device.
Turn it on while holding reset, for 10 seconds then try 192.168.1.1
Try it from another pc with an Ethernet cable to the lan connection on the router.
Maybe the firmware is corrupted?
If you can get in maybe update the firmware, but READ the instructions on how to do it first.
Read my last sentence again.

Thanks for the sugestions guys. Much appreciated.
Am using a straight through lead and the light comes on the router when connected to the pc.
I have tried just about every method to reset it.
I havnt tried it on another pc though.
Ill try it on my laptop a little later.
Thanks again
You don't have any proxies configured in your browser?

By default the netgear has DHCP turned ON & wireless Access turmed Off.
As ocd_csv said,
At the windows command prompt if you type ipconfig then you should see the IP adress of the PC & the gateway.
The PC address should be 192.168.1.ANY if it's anything else like 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then the netgear is not allocating IP address to your PC.
You can manually set the IP address on your PC by going to
control panel, network connection, right click on local area connection, click on properties, double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP), click on Use the following IP address, type into the 4 boxes 192.168.1.200, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1 close it all & then try the ping or connecting to the router again.
I have seen a problem were the router is dead but the 4 port switch side of the router still works.
Good luck
cheers
