DVD Rom for Compaq nx 9010

Hi all,

i have a mates laptop which has a DVD rom and it doesn't work. if you put a disk in, the light flashes and nothing else. If you put a disk in and click on it in Windows explorer, it asks to insert a disk.

with symptoms like this, i would suspect that the DVD ROM is stuffed.

My next question is where can i get another one from? is there any good sites where i can buy one from. I tried ebay with no luck.

Does the computer recognize the disk drive in explorer and device manager? It may just be a problem with the device driver. Does device manager tell you anything?

One or two screws will release it a pertno will be on it contact compaq/hp for a repair exachange unit usually fairly cheap

he may have a new laptop by now
