    Default Samsung LA40R81BD Fault

    Hi all,

I took the following pics of this unit straight after switching on, and over a period of about 20 seconds. The hashy pattern flickers on and off till it reaches what you see in the 3rd pic.
The tv soon switches itself off then restarts and repeats.

I read through this post :

I replaced the 5 caps. They were not physically damaged at all, but I knew from the other thread that it's better to change them anyway.

Will a bad IC1803 create this symptom ?
or am I looking for something else ?

    Loopy

    yes can do
Symptom : : No Power, keeps clicking, colours incorrect, No DTV / ATV. No DTV or RF signal on TV.
    - SMPS capacitor failure causing No power or No DTV to above models.
This is due to Eeprom value in Factory setting change when SMPS failure (side effect)
go back to that post and get the settings for LA40R81BD enter service mode and cheq them all

link to my original post with service information relating to this model range is linked below. Like CHRISS said check the settings make sure they are the same as what is listed for your model.

    service info

If it's not the eeprom, either the tcon board or main tuner board will be faulty.

    I've just ordered the chip.
In the mean time I thought I'd do a little testing.

At this stage, now that I've changed the caps, the hash on the screen doesn't flicker or gradually increase the hash as it did before. It just goes immediately to a full on hash pattern. By hash, I don't mean snow. It's a digital pattern. I'll try and post a photo tomorrow.

So, I desoldered pins 5 & 6 and turned it on.
Black screen but the set didn't switch off.
The main blue lamp in the middle of the tv flashed about 5 times I think, maybe that's a hint.
Resoldered the pins back and it's still the same as before.

    Veerrry Interlesting.

    Replaced the chip yesterday.
On first start up it did do a fair bit of clicking before the display light up.
Unfortunately, the next picture tells the story.
It also does the on, off cycling about every 15 secs. , coming back to this screen each time.

I have a sneaky suspicion that if the set was left off for a long time to completely discharge that it would go back to what it did in the first 3 pics post#1, and end up like this pic again. I would have to wait a long time to prove that, or, do you think if I lay a sheet of aluminium foil over the boards and rub my hand over it to attempt to discharge everything (after discharging the big caps of course) ?.....Don't know what I'd gain out of it, just another test I guess.

There is one thing I forgot to mention.

After replacing the chip, the tv also had the sound working again.

I know this is a 7 year thread
I am having the same issue with my la40m81bd doing this exact same fault by the sounds of it

    caps where replaced first

tv lasted a few weeks and came back with this fault

heres a video T-Con has been tested with another t-con so that's been ruled out

    ic1803 erased with a programmer
tv now clicks on and off every 30 - 2 mins still displaying this pattern of static.
