    Hello.

    Need your help desperately.

Running XP and ASUS P4C800-E MB.

When I power up the pc - it seems the hdd does not boot up.

I have reset the CLRTC jump settings on the MB and when I re-booted, hdd did boot up and then siad my CMOS seetings were incorrect and needed to be reset. When I tried to go into CMOS, it hung agian.

I have repeated exercise without success.

Try disconnecting your HDD and see if it still hangs going into Bios

    4 things
1 check the MB for leaky caps near the processor
    2 power supply could faulty
3 disconnect all HDD and dvd etc and try and boot up
4 Turn the power off at the wall and leave it off for 20 seconds and while holding down the power button on the computer, turn the power on at the wall if it fires up then your power supply is on its way out

Good pic of leaky caps here

    Ok.

    Played around..

PSU fine as when I changed that CLRTC jumper to "Clear CMOS setting", PC turns on but does not boot.

I am unable to turn PSU (and hence PC) when I place the jumper setting to "Normal (default) setting".

I have tried to boot up without any drives connected.

    Still no success.

    No leaky caps either...

    Thoughts?

Taking a guess here, but could it be your cmos battery is flat?
Wouldn't hurt to replace it anyway..very cheap

Try removing all plugin cards and boot. Use onboard video if you can.
    May have a faulty card.

If you replace your cmos battery make sure you only hold it by the edges.
What happens if I press alt + F4?

That motherboard is getting old, first manufactured in 2004. I'd highly suspect you have leaky or bulging capacitors. Check them closely, especially the row of them along the edge of the board near the CPU. Have a look at best4less piccy in post 4. The capacitors should have flat tops and no discharge.

no leaks in caps, boards and cpu re-seated.
