Popcorn A-100 wont boot ??

Hi All

Looking for someone who can fix the old popcorn A-100

from cold start :

starts with the boot screen, quick green screen falsn then back to boot screen.
that goes for 30-40 seconds & then goes blank/black

turn off / on via remote

screen is all over the place & fuzzy etc..

I can make out the screen saver running in the back ground , but nothing else...


Can it be reset via jumpers inside ??

or is it died ??

Anyone have any ideas ??

I got a popcorn 110 secondhand that behaved in a similar fashion and eventually found the output had been set for 1080...trouble was my hd TV I had at that time didn't go that high.
Eventually got it right when I connected it to a suitable TV and changed the output setting.

I was never able to reset it (from memory)as the reset required you to see the menu...not such a smart idea of the makers.

OK will try it again with a HDMI cable to the Panasonic ..

Is there a button that will scroll through the inputs till the correct 1 is used ??

OR does this also need to be changed via the viewable menu on screen ??

Just found a quick setup guide for it
TV Mode + 0 = Auto TV mode
TV Mode + 1 = component/comp ntsc 480i
TV Mode + 2 = comp/comp 576i pal
TV Mode + 3 = nil
TV Mode + 4 = comp 720p60
TV Mode + 5 = comp 1080i60
TV Mode + 6 = comp 1080p60
TV Mode + 7 = hdmi720p60
TV Mode + 8 = hdmi 1080i60
TV Mode + 9 = hdmi 1080p60
TV Mode + caps/num = toggles 60 and 50 hz

" For quick settings of the output video mode please use tv mode key followed by one of the numeric keys"

Well for some stoopid reason, the new Panasonic 50" didnt wanna play on the 1 HDMI port I tried. (havent tried it again as popcorn now set in position)

so i moved everything into the BR so I could try stuff while tv was being watched else where..

Tried various cables on various ports. only to find out that the 1 HDMI port I was using (side 1 thats most accessable) isnt the port to try anything on if your trouble shooting

Found the manual for my Samsung 26" LCD & see that " when using HDMI / DVI cable connection, you must use the HDMI input 1 jack."

so I got it to work finally , then started to look @ my cables, brand new (but a cheapy) HDMI cable copped the blamm.. but I took it back after i found the port issue..

sorted the cable issue out , tried the other HDMI ports & showed the manual was actually correct.. it didnt wotk on the other ports at all, just black screen..

So happy camper here , updated the fw to last & now to get it to "see" the network all the time , not just when it feels like it..

Currently looking for a proper list of what files it will actually play ..

Also for a proper manual to shop correct settings etc although guess work seems to be the best way as with most of these units.

I cant see a unit this old playing them though..

Anyone know IF there is "Other" firmware that will run on the A-100 ??

the stock stuff isnt that flash & wont hold a connection over my network
(when it can find it).
wired with staic IP.. maybe it just doesnt like looking for Win 7...

Would be really interested to find something better to run on it for sure..

Glennsat. you show me a sample of the file matey & I will try it..
I dont have a 3D TV though , but more than willing to get a trailer or something to tell you if it works...


Still hunting for a hacked firmware to see if it runs any better ( any assistance appreciated ).

Doesnt find my network properly... Any hints on this apprecuated as well.

gets to the Media Source , then Network Browser & sometimes finds the network but mostly just sees NFS Server...

All I have is the quick setup 'manual' which is a foldout piece of thick paper.
In China right now so can't quite lay my hands on it for a week or two yet .
