Do you know the CPU's are 'keyed'?
One corner has pins missing to be sure the you can not get the orrientation wrong. It will only go in one way.

Are you sure it's broken off?
If it really is, then it's stuffed anyway...

i got the board on now it lights up the screen but now it's not booting. when i have the windows cd it's says please put boot disc in and press any key. i do that and it just keeps saying it. Could this booting problem be caused by the broken pin on the cpu

Matt, once again, as above, if the CPU does have a broken pin, then it's stuffed.

i accidently broke a pin on a cpu and it still worked to my amazment, try another cpu to suss it out, on another note i could crank my old 433mhz to a higher fsb by removing a pin or cutting the track on the mounting board

When it's all said and done you've got to assume that if a chip manufacturer went to all the time, trouble and expense of designing a CPU with heaps of little legs on it, the loss of just one, might, just might be seen as being important.

Sure you may get it it to start up, hell you may even get it to load an operating systems, but I'll bet you 10 to a gallon of pigshit you won't get to do much else.

Listen to those who know and I'll speak slowly here,

If your cpu has a broken pin then it is stuffed.

If it didn't need that pin it wouldn't have been manufactured with it

    any objective replys accepted
try another cpu to suss it out,
All we want is that CPU pin 'B21' is not connected to the motherboard after we plugged in our Slot 1 CPU. A super easy and very efficient way is to simply cover pin 'B21'
    from toms hardware pages
sure you wouldnt go taking pins out but in this case it increased my fsb
i accidently broke a pin on a cpu and it still worked to my amazment,
my own previous testament that arse can beat class,,,,,sometimes
but I'll bet you 10 to a gallon of pigshit
right now i have 3 kl to spare

Not all pins are used on a cpu, and i think a couple are redundant.

The processor is obviously working, as he's getting an 'incorrect boot disk' screen.

Matt, the computer is looking for an operating system (os) to boot, but can't find one.

If it has windows installed (or any os), get into the bios and select the HDD which has the os on it as your 1st boot drive.
If you don't have an os installed and your trying to install one from a cd, then go into the bios and set the CD drive as the first boot, and then make sure whatever HDD your installing to is set to boot next.

    Cheers, RHCP.

dont think i have ever had a computer with a broken cpu pin, as fernbay said i would get a new cpu, secondly as rhcp said in above post

if your getting incorrect boot disk means their is no operating system on that disk,

also i heard if its duel core depending on how AMD set up their cpu , if anything like intel 1 pin out of place and boom no cpu, they are very touchy!!
