    Default Security System

    I have a DSC Classic PC1565 alarm system installed (10 years old) that includes 2 smoke detectors.

    I wish to add a thermal detector into a garage (40m cable run). Is it likely that this will be possible?

    Looking into the system electrical box it appears that all 6 zones have wires attached with the smoke detectors both going to the same zone with a resistor in there too. I therefore appear not to have spare zones and I don't know if a thermal can go into the same zone as smokies?

    It's all a little above me I am affraid. I am just trying to get some info before spending money on getting an installer out here.

    Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thermal detector?

    Are you talking about a heat/rate of rise detector (fire applications) or a Passive Infrared motion sensor?

    I need you to provide the model number of your code pad. If it is either one of the following;

    - PC1555RKZ
    - PC5508Z
    - PC5516Z
    - PC5532Z
    - LCD5500Z

    Then you're in luck as all the above mentioned have an input on-board. I don't recommend you "double" up devices on inputs, it's against the Australian Standards and in my opinion, bad practice.

    If there's anything that needs to be done right, it's home security even more so when you incorporate fire safety.
