What about these boxes?
They are priced between $150-450. Are they as good as DreamBox?

Thanks for letting me know about Zee TV. I was not aware of that.
If I am interested in Zee channels, I will contact them.
Although my primary interest is in watching Cricket. We already have Foxtel and Vision Asia cable and the large C band satellite dish on ASIASAT3S.
The sports channels include (all need subscription):
- PTV Sports
- GEO Super
- Ten Cricket
- ESPN
- Eurosport
- Star Cricket
The other channels, I am keen on are (the ones which need subscription):
- Geo TV
- Nick Pakistan
- AAG TV
- CHANNEL [V] INDIA
- Sahara Filmy
If there is a local vendor in Australia, please let me know.
Many thanks.
I spoke to a supplier in Pakistan this morning. They said we should also get a satellite on 68.5E in Sydney (C band). Which satellite would that be?
He suggested card sharing service. Are allowed to discuss that on this forum?
At 68.5E is Intelsat 10
I don't know if this Satellite is visable from Sydney.......?
It may be Visable from Perth......?
Other People may like to comment if they can receive this satellite in Australia & what location they are at ?
Did you ask if the Subscription card would unlock any channels on Asiasat3 or any other Satellite ?

Thanks Osirus,
Yes, if anyone can advise if the satellite is visible in Sydney, it would be appreciated.
I have contacted a company that allows gives you subscription. The confirmed that it would unlock the required channels on Asiasat3. I will try and see if they can provide subscription only, so I can buy a box locally.
It's extrememly unlikely you'll get IS10 anywhare in Sydney, as it's below the horizon.
Yes, you can receive it in Perth.
It can be received in central NSW, providing you have sufficient site elevation and no terrain in the signal path, as the dish would be vitually vertical.
You would also need a large dish.. 3m+
The further west you go... the better the chances.

Thanks for that.
Now if I can manage to get a C-line from the company in Pakistan? Can I use any box to view the channels or only a DreamBox with a specific firmware version etc.
I also need to understand models of DreamBox. I understand the clones are almost justa s good as the original and price is a lot less. I just need a box that will allow me to watch my cricket in HD and record / playback shows. I have a couple of 3.5" 3TB HDDs sitting around and a few 2.5" ones as well, if required.
It would be great if could record one show while watching a second one but that is a nice to have.
Can someone please guide me on this?
If you are a service provider or technician, please feel free to contact me via PM.

Someone more knowlegeable the me with Dreambox will be able to advise better, but what you can use for a specific subscription will largely depend on the provider of the service and the ability to use their subscription card in various decoders, so it would probably be best to confirm with the service provider what your options are.
Eg: until mid/late last year, it was possible to use Foxtel cards with third party decoders, lie dreambox, but that is no longer possible.
There are several dual-tuner decoders available, so you can record one channel and watch another live... record two different channels and watch a pre-recorded program.... record two different channels and watch a third live, if it's on the same transponder as one which you are recording, etc, etc.
I think You still need to see the Satellite....from your Satellite dish, for a Card share to work.....(dish still needs to be connected)
Uness its like streaming or something, over the internet.... (lots of bandwidth needed)
Or unless you get channels on other Satellites that you can see from Sydney......
Card share can be unreliable.....they can disappear at any time.....
also card sharing, & sharing a Television service by streaming is illegal.... at least in this country

Reading back through the thread, the 'service' being offered certainly sounds like a cardshare/streaming arrangement... not a legit individual smartcard registered to the end user.
There are numerous people being ripped off with illegal cardsharing, which as OSIRUS says, can disappear at any time, leaving you with no reception for the money you've paid.... which is why I'm very suss about the requirement for a Dreambox, as they were/are predominately used for 'non-genuine' subscriptions.
In most cases, if you can't obtain a legit smartcard for the desired service in Australia, then it's usually a dodgy operation.

Some of my mates here in Melbourne can pick up Intelsat 7/10 but they are using a 3 metre mesh or 2.7 solid, and one of them live on a hill overlooking west clearly, the other one has his dish right on the very top of his factory.
OSIRUS (24-01-12)
Yes, it can be received in Melbourne, with a large dish and suitable terrain.
Depending on the Melbourne suburb, IS10 is just above the horizon (around 2deg) whereas Sydney has IS10 about -2.5deg (below the horizon).
Melbourne is further west that what Sydney is.
As I mentioned, the further west you go, the greater the elevation above the horizon for IS10, so your chances increase.
Frankly, I am not sure about the legality of things. I am quite happy to pay for the full legal subscription for these channels but there is no one in this region who sells them.
Over the last couple of weeks I have been contacting many channels and cable companies and they asked to contact their resellers in Pakistan.
From what I have been told, they have two types of resellers: Cable Operators and Satellite resellers (mainly for rural and overseas customers).
1) Cable operators - cannot provide me service
2) Satellite resellers offer carded and internet based card-sharing subscription (for multiple-card subscription); for which you need a box like DreamBox (they usually supply their pre-configured one).
It is hard to tell if the people I have ended up speaking with are satellite resellers or middle-men just making a buck off the deal.
They offer monthly, quarterly or annual subscriptions and have resellers in Europe and Africa and Americas. Unfortunately no one here.
You're the experts. Does this sound illegal to you guys?
Each country has its own laws relating to TV satelitte reception and the 'Provider' may have arranged for their services to be legally seen in those countries.
Several years ago we had a company try to broadcast XXX rated Pornography via NSS6 into Australia and to see it required a subscription.
I believe that although the Government was powerless to prevent the actual transmission, actions were taken to force this company to cease transmission, one way was to block payments to the company similar to what has later happened in the current and continuing battle with the 'Wikileaks' papers.
I dont doubt there were other means used at high trade levels to remove this transmission.
The fact that they say they have 'resellers' in other coutries doesnt mean they are authorised by the TV provider to do so as regreatably many such 'resellers' sell services to their 'Countrymen' illegaly.
I believe from recent reports that Overseas TV services where sold to People around Sydney without authority and the operators are now facing prosecution along with their customers who have lost whatever they paid for the STB's as well as the subscriptions.
Also is the 'Foot Print' covered by the respective satelitte and finaly, the 'Customer Base'.
The fact the satelitte is cleary visible from your area doesnt mean the 'Beam' is aimed in your direction and receivable.
Some 'Providers' wont sell to Australia because it isnt worth their time and cost in setting up a business to do so and they could be in breach of Copyright if they do so.
From your own comments the TV providers dont seem very interested in providing you with their services and you have to ask why not?
As far as I aware, card sharing itself is not illegal IF it is allowed by the provider who would charge you accordingly but none of PAYTV providers here will allow it on their services and as such it is illegal to do it and I think the penalties are quite large involving both imprisonment and monetary fines.
I also read that Canada wont allow anyone to install a satelitte dish unless they are a TV provider and have made it illegal to have TV subscriptions from outside the country.

No they dont have a licence to resell those channels on card sharing. That's complete BS. No broadcasters have licenced others to resell their content on card sharing.
Why not write to the channel broadcasters, give them the resellers information asking for confirmation that have permission to resell on cline with Dreamboxes?
Brand_New_Guy (24-01-12)
I agree, the 'arrangement' is far from legal.
Authorities could shut down the service at any time and those who subscribe to it may also be prosecuted.
Even without prosecution, you could be out of pocket for the equipment and 'service' you paid for and no longer receive.
The old saying rings true... if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Thanks for the response guys. It is much appreciated.
As you can probably tell, I have little idea about these things. I am only telling you what I got told.
The channel guys probably thing Market is too small in Australia to be worth while their trouble (I mean the Pakistani / Indian speaking folks), compared to elsewhere. Vision Asia provides subscription to about 10 channels but not from AS3S. GEO TV Group are able to give me a decoder box, as a reseller, for free but I need at least 10,000 subscribers. They will probably make millions in ads. Anyone wants to buy Pakistani news channels???...
My friends, I just want to follow Pakistani cricket these days (now that there is actually something worth watching!). If they want they can put a disabled pensioner in jail for that.
For now I will try out this c-line and get a decoder to play around with.
I do have clear reception of the FTA channels on AS3S.
Can I use any box or do I need a specific DreamBox Model with a specific firmware?
I hope I didn't offend anyone with my comments. If so, I am very sorry. It was not intentional.
You can use any box that's capable of CS which is many these days.
