My 2c is, most people who replace the screen use a $5 shitty screen from ebay.

I went passed a shop last week and the guy was complaining it was the 6th time his iphone glass had broken. The shop said they would do it at a discounted rate of $50 as they had replaced all 6 of them,. I felt like shaking the prick and telling him to pull his head in.

Anyway, speak to freaklee he may be able to advise.

i've got 2 4th gen touch's in for repair with smashed screens waiting on replacement lcd and glass digitizers to arrive

they are not too difficult to replace - plenty of guides and tutorial vids to show you how its done - hot air applied to the glass to soften the adhesive and then a spudger to lever and seperate the glass from the plastic case - make sure you get the proper thickness adhesive strips to stick it all back together (you need to cut them to size as they are usually precut for iphones)

i prefer to replace the digitizer and lcd in one as trying to remove a shattered glass digitizer glued onto the lcd often results in surface scratches and cuts on the lcd

    Hey there Bigfella

    replaced a few now

you may need to order a couple of bits - you have to get the combined LCD and digitiser in one, can't be seperated (trust me I have tried) and the ribbon for Volume /power etc and if you have really big hands might be worth getting the wifi antenna too

Mysterex is correct with the hot air and you need to make sure you don't break the plastic buffer that the digitiser sits on - you will normally find the replacements screens now have the correct adhesive strips.

Once apart you need to be really carefull, there are about 12 screws that need removing on the back plate and you will find that there is also adhesive strips inside holding down the volume ribbon and camera and the volume ribbon is really easily damaged here. Best advice is, no force at all, slowly do it and watch for little adhesive strips as they tend to be in the ipod and are everywhere

Also make sure your screws go in square and all the way home as they will cause discolouring on the LCD as they will push into it from behind

    goodluck

Hi mate I have replaced many screens on ipod/iphones including the latest ones. with your ipod you are going to need a hair drier and a good metal tool you can find on ebay for about $6 bucks. because the plastic tools that come with the screen are no good and will just brake and likely to cause damage.

its not a big job, just need a little patience so nothing gets damaged.

below is a link to a guide I iused when first learning how to replace the screens, I like this guide because it shows everything needed and doesnt miss any steps, like other guides do.

Hope it all works out for you, but if you need more help I can talk you through it

if the top of the glass doesnt close properly, its cause the digitiser cable has flopped over and is sitting underneath the screen. Flip that one up and it will fit.

    LIKE A GLOVE.

took me a while to figure that one out.

There are lots of cheap Ipod screens, but actually they have terrible quality (an image even becomes blur on them). So keep it in mind when choosing a screen for your Ipod.
