    Default Petrol Consumption

Hi all just a quick few quesitons and some thoughts..

i currently get about 450km out of a tank of petrol soo 85 dolars of petrol gets me 450km is this bad or good would oyu say..the oxygen sensor has been changed but im starting to think it mite be faulty as fuel consumption increased a bit when i changed it....

I have a Manual Mitsubishi FTO GPX

2.0L V6 and it is a high reving engine and sometimes i am heavy footed just on acceleration though. What do you guys think?

Oh yea the car has been run on Bp Ultimate, Shell V-POWER and occasinally Safway VORTEX(crapola) all 98 RON though.

So what do you guys think?

Also does premium unleaded burn quicker or slower than regular unleaded?
SHould i jsut switch to regular unleaded?

fill the tank and set odometer to zero, do a few hundred kilometres then refill tank, take note of litres used and kilometres travelled, you can then work out the litres used per hundred kilometres, then you can tell us if its good or not, my missus little getz 1.5l uses 6.5l/100km

Premium burns slower than regular, and being an import regular may not be suitable.

Another thing to keep in mind is if the tyres are larger than origional then you would be getting more km's than what the odometer and speedo is showing.

    Not enough information.

    We have dollars and kilometres.

    Tell us the litres.

    Sounds about 12.5 l to 100km.
This is based on fuel costing you $1.50 per L, $85 worth = about 56/57 litres for 450 km.

Not the best but remember your reving her and treating her like a leb

The better fuels should run better and smoother, producing more power therefore requiring less throttle leading to better fuel economy but at the extra cost of the better fuel.

Pretty much same outcome $ wise imo.

    Points to getting your economy out of the engine;
Ignition base timming must be checked.
    Aircleaner must be clean.
Spark plugs correctly gapped and clean.
Injectors to be clean for correct spray pattern (spraying not dribbling).
Ignition leads to be in good order.
Map or Mas sensor to be checked.
    Oxygen sensor to be checked.
    Reset ecu and relearn.

Last but not least have you thought of keeping your revs down?
    Revs= alot of fuel.

    Other points:
    Tyre air pressures too low.
Brakes gragging via a seized caliper.
Hand brake adjusted too tight causeing drag.
Too much weight being carried around, ie too many dead bodies, drugs or guns in the boot.

As a comparison my Camry company car is a 2.2ltr, $75 to $80 gets me 450 to 460km.
Oh and i drive her like i stole her.

Do i have to remind you its a $10k fine if you get caught.

Hmmm is the fine worth more than the flames?

Get a high flow cat, ebay is your freind.

Hey is your system standard up to the cat connection? ie from engine to cat?

If so you could fit a standard one and decat it.

All you do is get a long screwdriver and hammer and knock out all the internals.

No restrictions then and yes officer i do have a cat fitted.

My GTR has a straight through or decat pipe like yours. At least yours has the covers still there to look like its legal.

Note the rusty non stainless steel section, damm butchers.

There is no way in the world i could work out the size of your piping from looking at a pic mate.

Your cannon will be only a tiny bit quiter, almost zero diffrence infact from what others have experianced with adding cats back on.

    Which cat?
The one that gives the best flow at the least price.
As i said get a cheapy and gut it out mate.
$300 to 350 fitted sounds right.
Looking at the prices on ebay anything around the $200 mark in the right diameter is ok for your car.
Then add $100 labour and your back to where you started.
Maybe just take it in and let the guy supply and fit it then you will be covered if something goes wrong.

Im not worried about getting a epa at the moment.
Godzilla is off the road till my son finishes his VCE exams.
We dont want distractions right now and she gets trailered up to Winton/Calder/Phillip island when i have a itch.

Yes metal core are better because they flow more per exhaust area.
This is how cats are rated, flow.

Remember you dont have a turbo, you could get any high flow cat in the largest dia that the guy could fit and it would be ok.

Another reason is that you may end up buying the wrong one on ebay, its a little too hard to send it back later.

Just make sure it flows well and the best way is to fit the largest dia cat you can, he can then build the brackets to reduce it down to your exhaust size.

Thanks for the offer for tutoring, hes going well but easely distracted by the car.
Just to make matters worse hes getting his licence in 2 weeks.
And now he thinks his Leb and living in Fat Pizza the movie.LOL

See pic to understand why car is off the road.

Not having a catalyctic converter releases cancer causing shit into the neighbourhood.

In a few years a few people around you might get pretty sick.

that's why the $10k fine...should be $100k if you ask me.
