A couple of firmwares out for the SF918 I note from OS forums.

Still considering the AP IPBox or the SF918.
    A UK seller, 1st SF918.

    AP IP Box9000

Looks great but I bet it doesn't work with a NDS P2 card so whats the point. You can only get FoxTel HD with a P2 Card so I'm lead to believe.

Remains to be seen and its an interesting one to ponder, but more to HD than just Foxtels stuff, and more to come. The AP Box cost is high, but still mebbe . . . I would say personally, I see no reason to continue purchasing mere SD MPEG2 decoders, certainly for hobbiests. The SF918 should be well supported, but we'll see. (Note you can buy NDS STB's a la Humax etc out of Indonesia).

The ability to stream Internet content a la say YouTube in one device would be handy, ditto ability for online TV.

HD thinking Thinking C band. Voom, Lux, etc (Also, being ex PNG I am looking forward to PNG National radio that will appear on IS8 but in DVB-S2, ABC liason tells me an MPEG2 decoder won't get it).

no go on foxtel h.d. with a blue card.....

no access to an orange card at the moment.

does work perfectly with a fox blue card and 2 irdeto cams.....

only niggle so far is that you can't seem to set it to dolby digital output by default, you have to manually set each channel.

excellent picture quality on a hd feed......

very nice box though, a lot easier than a dream to set up .

Sweet ! Do they run perfectly, ie without the intermittent freezing that you get on the 318 and 518's (blue card) every few mins or so ?? No freezing with the orange card ????? If that's the case, i've sooooooo got to get me self one of these babies..

runs perfectly with a blue card in the slot, whitey in a cam and aurora goldie in another cam ( or emu keys).....

emu works fine, has provision for biss keys and key upgrades are available for those 'special' viacess services etc.....

digital audio is fine and it outputs correct dolby signal where present, picture via hdmi is excellent, epg is good.....

couple of minor niggles with the firmware, ie: setting a non standard lnb like 10700 is still a pain. can't sort channel list properly.

bear in mind though that these boxes are still in development, recording via esata etc is still in development.

easy firmware upgrade via usb stick, no need for cables. or you can upgrade firmware via network and website.....

at the moment they are an excellent all round box, if you need hdmi and digital audio. if you need a pvr, wait a while.

    Mini review:

Just got this box yesterday and been having a play tonight. I havent cracked it open yet but will soon.

    Initial impresssions...

    PROS

    - Build quality is excellent. It feels and looks robust but doesnt weigh a ton.

    - Remote is well laid out and feels comfortable to use. Youll be navigating without looking down in no time

    - It has an internal slot and two CAM slots.

    - Internal slot: Bluey, Orange, whitey ALL work. Kick starts everything ive thrown at it

    - Channel changes are very quick

    - Menu and graphics are exceptional

    - Has hidden menu to setup as newcamd client. Its only a simple onscreen setup but it works. Connected to GW, and newCS no probs.

    - HDMI output looks really good. Even crappy regular f*x looks decent.

    - Boot times are lightning quick. Less than 8 secs from boot to pics.

    CONS

    - Still in its infancy so mods and tweaks are scarce. But they are coming on strong so thats good.

    - eSATA port for connecting external HD to use as PVR yet to be implemented.

    - Renaming a channel doesnt let you add or remove part of an existing name. YOu need to completely retype it (which is a bummer using a remote)

    - No web or FTP server built in (yet)

    to be continued....
