this 1 can take 9850
120 but
the m56s cant at this stage.
Ok guys, more to my little saga..lol..
I was looking at the spec for the GB GA-MA770-DS3.
Now its a AM2+ board, but looking at the supported CPUs, this board doesn't support the Phenom 9850!!!
Now if I was going to upgrade to a Phenom over my 6000+ it wouldn't be anything under a 9850 because it wouldn't be worth it.
Now the MB under the MA770-DS3 is the M56S-S3 with is the exact same board I have at the moment.
You guys think its worth even going to the MA770-DS3 board or just stick with the M56S-S3 board again. Theres only $10 difference.
Thanks

Yeh, the 790x chipset takes the 9850 and beyond, the MA770-DS3 supports phenoms right up to 9750, but when it gets to 9850 it says N/a
the MA770-DS3 is a AM2+ native board, where the M56S-S3 does support the phenoms, but not at the full HT speed.
I'm just not sure, surely the MA770-DS3 will implement 9850 support as the 9750 is a 125w CPU like the 9850.
Have you heard much about the 770 Chipset over the 560, is it much better?
I would love to update my motherboard. $120 is a reasonable price, but I would then have to buy a new copy of XP or Vista as my XP is an OE version and I can't register it on a new m/B.
What is the cheapest way I can get a new O/S?
