if you can log in to windows, it's best to create recovery cds and then recover from them.
Howdy.
I have an issue with my Acer Aspire Laptop..Model number 5745g. It's over a year old now and it is running ok, I however would like to restore it back to factory settings.
When I fire it up and press Alt+F10 at the start, all that happens is I get a message "bootmgr is missing, hit alt ctrl delete to restart." I switch it off and restart it and then it fires up normally.
D2D recovery is enabled in the Bios.
Does anyone know what could be happening? Could the recovery drive be cactus?
Thanks.

Hey, thanks for replying. I don't really want to back up what I have, I'd like to be able to restore the computer to how it was when I first got it. I did originally try the eRecovery, and it gave me an error message, so i gave up and reformatted the C drive with windows 7 that i had on a usb stick, and thus do not have any acer software on the laptop. That part of it is working well, it is just trying to recover it from the original hidden partition without the bootmgr error message. Cheers
when you make recovery cds it will be made from the hidden partition that was initially made by acer.
I guess now you don't have erecovery installed on your system, but you still have the recovery partition untouched, right?
if so just download erecovery install it then make the cds, then recover from them.
Maybe get a copy of Hirens boot disk and go to mbr tools and I think this will restore the bootmgr file that appears to be missing
thanks, will try it
