Youv'e got too much time on your hands gordon...
When I was writting down the Decoder serial number I counted them to avoid missing any as I have a problem reading closely grouped numbers and there was 21, but when I checked another stb, there are ony 20.
I have checked 2 other stbs and they only had 20 numbers.
I have checked and rechecked but they dont appear to have the same total of numbers.
I dont suppose it matters but it peaked my curiosity.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

As I said I have to count closely grouped numbers to ensure I dont miss any and thats when I realised they were different.
Also I have a STB to install and activate soon for a neighbour and I dont want to make a mistake when I go online to do it.

I think The STB serial number is the bit after DSD4121 without the X
i.e. in this Format DSD4121 SSSSSSSSSSSSSS X A
& STB Serial # SSSSSSSSSSSSSSA
& I get 15 numbers
(what do other people think?)
Take a photo of the Serial & put it on your computer, you can then make it bigger to see clearly...

Ive noticed during many installs they do have different number lengths.
When u used to have to enter serials to activate you used to add the lot except the final "X A" bit. (dont remember if u added the DSD bit)
Good its all card number activation now though.
edit: The barcode scanner on my phone doesnt add the DSD or XA bit either when scanning the barcode under the serial
ie. 4121SSSSSSSSSSSSSS

The online registration doesn't require the decoder serial number, just the decoder make/model (there is only one) and the smartcard number.
Gordon may be referring to the online warranty registration which will need the serial number.

No, not the Warranty Form but on the VAST Registration form supplied with the stb it askes for the Smart Card AND the Decoder Serial number.
I cant remember back 13 months to what the online form requires, I just presumed it wanted the same details.
Decoder serial numbers start 41214121 then goes from there
On the bottom of the form it asks for other Smart Card numbers if you have any.
As my neighbour is still away I havent bothered to activate the STB for her yet.
