    Default Vast Tuning Channel

Noticed today that Vast now has channel 801 added to it's list on Optus D3.

Just says e52-32 searching for Signal at 11928 MHz

Also noticed that there are now 99 channels instead of 89 channels, i'm pretty sure that have added other 10 Channels, although nothing showing up at this stage, Quote me if i'm wrong.

Don't know the technical details like you guys, but maybe these changes, coming on the back of last weekend's re-booting sagas, are the preparations for the "PVR - soooooon" download. There again, maybe not - I won't be holding my breath !!!!

the channels won't show up on the uec box unless they are part of your authorised bouquet.....

they are probably testing at the moment, so have not been added to any bouquets yet.

Purely speculation, but perhaps they are starting to duplicate channels on D3 in preparation for a changeover.

    Default D3 test transmission

    That is interesting.

Here is a little snippet I saved as published in an Optus submission in 2007. This suggests that D3 is intended for distribution to remote sites. I don't know if that means for the broadcasters access only or it will be accessable by others. I can tell you the Federal Government and ACMA are under a lot of pressure over the lack of signal access for self-help sites and MPEG4 to MPEG2 transcoding. It's getting a little interesting now.

When the Optus D3 satellite is launched in 2009, it will be placed in the 156°E slot and be co‐located with the Optus C1 satellite. With D3 in service, the available capacity for the Aurora platform expansion and Digital Television distribution will be greatly increased.

Optus believes there is an extended role for satellite technology in delivering free-to‐air digital television services to enable digital conversion to occur in remote areas

At the time that could have inferred this was for sending the FTA Digital TV to remote retransmitters (ie translators) so the 'broadcaster' didnt have to upgrade the current euipment used in relaying analog but now of course this could be for either DTH or remote sites both permanent (Towns) or temporary as in mining sites etc

But my Theory is that this is to allow the TEN network to add their own Home shopping channel when the other 2 inflict theirs on the unsuspecting VAST viewer.
I just cant wait, can you????

    Thanks Windy,

they are all DVBS2 & all on the same transponder as the D3 tuning channel...

would they be offering theses channels to vast viewers....or on the vast platform ?

    I guess time will tell

I'm only guessing, it seems the Sky Channel package (Pubs and Clubs version) that used to be on the old Optus B3 156.0e Aurora platform which is now on Optus D2 152.0e, will be returning back to 156.0e on the VAST platform when Aurora is decommissioned.

Doing a bit of 'Housekeeping' and sorting out the flower arrangements now rather than the last minute.
I would really like to know how much of an upset that problem with VAST caused last Saturday and while I dont doubt that over the years there have been other disruptions, was this the first time for that particular one?

And dont forget while I mentioned the 'Commercial' channels having a 'Shopping Channel' whats to stop the ABC and SBS joining in?
Can you imagine the 'Smart AGGHHH' Bra being sold in Hindustani, Sudanese or Pidgeon ???

All those VAST installations with 11.3GHz LNB's will not be able to receive that D3 11928MHz carrier.

Is there still an a feed on this channel? I recently saw an otherwise working and activated VAST install w/ 10700 LNB be unable to view it.

Ive also seen it tune in on an 11300 LNB(!) - Ex Aurora Dish; though unable to select as per above, has it moved?.
