    Thanks Downunder35.
ps. for the record, spent a few hours on Google - only resorted to asking on the forum when all google roads led to dead sites, or more commonly, got re-directed from the ER Mapper site to what must be the new owner of the software - Intergraph. I couldn't find it on the Intergraph site, it looks like it's no longer provided. So hold on to your copies...

    Default Handling large maps

Yep, it's an old post but I think Downunder35m is still active. One program that I have used to stitch large map files together is Photoshop. It is dead-accurate for that task and is a pleasure to use.
It is said that its memory handling ability is second to none. I would say that at least 8Gb of user memory would be a baseline requirement though and the rest would be virtual memory. I hope you were successful extracting the maps if already accomplished.

ps I would love to get one of these "difficult" maps and have a look myself.

Hi Downunder. The files have been up a while I know. Now, part 1 of this map is broken according to FF.
Can you upload that part or supply alternate download please?.
I'm almost certain all parts were fine last night when I went to get them. Strange that.
cheers and no probs if you cant do that.

Default Aus Topo 250 ozf2 parts

Don't mean to be a PITA Downunder but with Aus Topo 250 ozf2 there are only parts 1, 2, 4 & 5 available for download.
There is no part 3. Total of parts available is 928Mb.
Does that number sound right to you? Thanks for making these available too. I appreciate it.
    phil

Edit: Cannot unrar as I am getting a corrupt error. I think part 3 is required and was not a misnumbering error.
While I'm at it the Tracks4Australia ECW is corrupted of FF as well. I would really appreciate either or both of these
    files were corrected.

As a slight digression. I am looking for outback maps, are these suitable for phones or PC's or are they GPS navigator specific? IF so, what machine would you suggest?
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

If you are new to this whole custom map making deal their is a steep(ish) learning curve. It can be a black hole some never escape from ;-))
As ozf2 and ozf3 formatted maps they are suitable for OziExplorer PC and OziExplorer on pocket PCs. As ozfx3 they would also be for Android phones and I think the latest OziExplorer for PC . . . etc.
As ECW there are lots of options as they are readily converted to other formats. Inside an ECW map file is all the geo-location info that software needs to place each map on the earth's surface. OziExplorer software uses a separate .map file to gain that info even for ECW files (I don't know why).
In answer to your question, the ECW files that Downunder has graciously made available here are usable across devices and operating systems but sometimes need conversion. The Ozi files up to ozfx2* can be converted back to something more suitable if ECW (or others) aren't available. As an example using ECW files I am converting them to .rmap files for use with TwoNav on an iPad. There is heaps to learn and it can be fun for some, tedious for others and a mystery to the rest.
    Hope that helps.
    ( * = maybe also earlier versions of ozfx3 )

    Hey Philbo

Would you be at all interested in sharing your Map making knowledge with users here?
There are more then a few 4WD and Road Tripper alike here.

I know i have a very shallow understanding of Ozi Explorer on different devices.
    Making Custom Maps
    Calibrating them

Would you be interested in making a thread pointing out the basics
Or a Step by Step with one map as an example

I think it would be a great contribution to the site

    Cheers

I agree, Right down to what is the best a)entry level and b)over all gear to use. i.e. should you go for a dedicated Navigation Tool or used a smartphone, tablet or 'puter.

The links are dead. (They don't last forever).

Downunder35 does not appear to have visited the forum for over a year, so you will have to search for other sources for the files you desire.

    Thanks Tristen.

If anyone who managed to download the original files is able to rehost it would be much appreciated! This appears to be one of the better threads on the web on this topic.
