got holidays comming up as well as a nice little tax return
id be interested in reccomendations in equipment.
on a bit of a budget but id prefer to do it right the first time.
Is it aligning the dish the same was a kuband one but bigger?
Good morning everybody,
I live in Sth Qld out on the Darling Downs (27.5S, 151.7 E) and am contemplating going over to C Band.
I'd appreciate suggestions for dish size and make, actuator, decoder and any other relevant info.
It is worh getting a composite C/Ku LNB or are they more trouble than they are worth for a beginner.
Thanks

The general setup for what you want is:
*2.3m prime focus mesh dish, strong or pheonix. $200 mark.
*People can be a bit fussy with LNBs but generally the C/Ku dual band ones don't perform as well as a straight out C band LNB So I would probably stick to a nice C band LNB. My $35 strong LNB picks up all the birds in QLD.
*Some good quad shield RG6 Cable will be normally under a dollar per meter.
*The skys the limit when it comes to what STB you want. If you already have one then more than likely it will do the job fine.
*If you want to motorise, an actuator and a positioner will be needed. The USA made superjack is the best and you will only need a 24" standard duty actuator to move this dish. No more than $50. A positioner either strong or pheonix will do just fine and is around the $50 mark. Don't forget to add some cat5e cable to controll the actuator.
You will need to find a suitable area to mount the bugger and a good length of 76mm galvanised piping. Otherthings include connectors etc.
This is practically all you need for a C band beginner.
thats what im waiting for aswell... a nice tax return so i can buy my dm800 hd box ive wanted for a long time..
cant wait !
I'd go an HD box too. (And start with a 3.0m diam C Band mesh instead).
Ideas:-
Octagon SF918-
AP IP Box Plus edition-
Etc, Arion etc -
Toppy HD, non PVR:-
5th Wyking Panzer Division
I'd have a solid dish...signal difference is amazing..2.4 solid should perform as well as a 3mtr mesh
I'd leave it as a standalone c band and just get a 90cm moteck set up for Ku, and use a disequc switch for both dishes..you won't regret it.
Yes, I'd get an HD ready receiver if I was buying now.
I understand what the others say, and are trying to keep your costs dowm...and that's good advice. I teper that by also saying, that when you are used to it all using a mesh dish, and you are struggling to get that little extra signal you need for some weaker transponders, you'll likely be kicking your self you didn't go for a solid dish, and do it all then, and not again.
As I say, my thoughts only, and not necessarily everyone will agree.
Good luck thogh..
Oh...don't forget to look where all the sats are, ensuring you can receive them prior to putting it all up, and finding a hill, tree or something else is hindering your full view of the arc from west to east
Whre can i get a C/KU LNB TO SUIT MY 3 METER DISH I DO HAVE A FEED HORNE C/KU BUT I am haveing problems with my selectv card . select said it would be my ku/c band i dont think it is but i will try anything as it freezes a lot and loses picks but singal streagth is good hope you can help
Been there done that
Afew years ago when i had a cband dish what i did was build a small aluminium bracket onto the side of my c band feed horn and mounted a ku lnb.
The c band and ku lnb's went into a 22kh tone switch to switch between c and ku.
When i wanted one of the optus or pas satellite's the dishs positioner would stop on it and the decoder change lnb's via the tone switch.
With the ku lnb being on the side of the dish the dishes true pointing position was off to one side.
As an example, in the decoder i had pas8 cband and pas8 ku satellites stored, the tone switch would change lnb's and then the dish would move a few degrees between them.
Worked great.

I realy wanted one off the shelf with the C/KU all in one and easy to install but thanks for the info

Thanks viewer will contact kristal

Standard offset ku lnb off my old 65cm dish.
Remember the dish needs to be to one side of the sat your aiming at similar to a offset dish.
Its good to hold the lnb by hand and have a signal meter connected while someone operates the actuator to find the spot for the dish pointing and ku lnb position.
Most dish meshes are ku ok, but not all, i think its the size of the holes in the mesh from what i remember.
