    Default Back again

This is more of a confirm what I already know question.

I got the GA-MA770-DS3 Board, its really nice. yes its worth the change from my old one.

Anyway, I had 4GB of Kingston Ram 4x1GB stick, both bought in kits, so 2 lots are the same make and revision. But using both kits on the new board causes problems. using just 1 kit (2x1GB exactly the same ram) works fine.

It has problems install Vista with all 4GB's in, it installs fine with 2GB, after install I put all 4 back in and windows stops responding intermittantly, but then continues on after about 30 seconds.

Now I also have a IDE hard drive for my backups, but this has a SATA adapter on it.
Could that have been damaged when the PS died, it does plug into a FDD power plug, or could the RAM be faulty or not compatible with the new board.
    This one has me stumped.

    Thanks

Are the ram kits the same speed and do they have the same timings?

Try the following if you know how to mess around in the BIOS, if you don't know how you will have to find someone.

1.) Try loading fail safe defaults in your bios with the 4 gigs in there and see if you get the same results and make sure the fail safe defaults disables any memory or system overclocking.
2.) Try updating your motherboard bios to the latest revision.

If all else fails try to disconnect all none essential devices like hdd drives, cdrom, pci cards etc but leave the 4 gigs in there and see if it does the same thing.

    shit bro
u shoulda bought 667 or 800 mhz ram really
    better timings
    and 2x2 gig sticks
    but solution:
why do u need 4 gigs?
do u use it, does it make a diff?
    try 3, stablize your pc

    Huh..
    It is 667 Ram..lol..
Might just get some 800Mhz ram 2x2GBs this time.
I find vista actually runs better with 4GB.
I've just updated to the latest BIOS.

Haven't tried installing Vista 32 again yet, but Vista 64 is running perfectly now.
It installing without a problem and just works

The latest BIOS update fixed it then? Latest BIOS's quite often have fixes for compatibility issues with certain types of RAM.

This is a common problem eg

Some people have no problems and some have nothing but trouble...I wonder if it has something to do with certain motherboards.

A mate of mine recently built a gaming machine with 32bit vista and 4G ram ....nothing but trouble..OK on 2G. Finally went to 64 bit and still couldn't get the 4G to work until he got a fix off the net for vista 64.

I tried increasing the Ram voltage by 1 step (+0.025), that seem to do the trick.
I was told the some motherboards have problems with all 4 ram slots filled up.
Seems to be ok now. Vista 32 installed without a problem. only problem I had is a slight hang on first boot before I install the ethernet drivers from the cd.
Vista installs its version of the driver, but you have system hangs while using it.

All seems fine at the moment. But if it continues, I'll go back to Vista 64, but will probably try changing the SATA cables too. I used the ones that come with the board, not the old ones.

Ok after a nearly sleepless night of problem after problem, I put my old board back in. (GA-M56S-S3)
Yes I thought it was dead, and well I wanted that one step to a quad core, but anyway..lol
And guess what, I haven't had a problem since. all 4GB sticks with BIOS defaults work perfectly.

Vista 64 and 32 install without a problem, no more blue screens, no more non responcive apps.

I'd say theres something wrong with the new board.
